Name Change Services in Jharkhand

Everything Jharkhandnamechange.com does, on one page: the Central Gazette filing, the affidavit, the Hindi and English newspaper notices, the public notice for a wrongly written name, minor and marriage cases, Government employee deeds, and the Aadhaar, PAN, bank and passport updates that follow. Each service says which cases it fits, what the Government charges, and when you do not need it at all.

Quick answer

Jharkhandnamechange.com offers twenty-eight name change services for residents of Jharkhand, in four groups: gazette and name change, identity documents, certificates and records, and corrections. The core ones are Central Gazette name change, the name change affidavit, Hindi and English newspaper notices, the public notice for a wrongly written name, minor name change, surname change after marriage, reverting a name after divorce, Government employee name change, father's or mother's name correction, Aadhaar and PAN updates, passport re-issue, and birth certificate correction advice. Every gazette service is published in Part IV of the Gazette of India from Delhi, the Government fee is commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult and Rs 1,700 for a minor on BharatKosh, revised each financial year, and our charge is quoted per case as a separate line.

The pages that rank for name change services in Jharkhand sell one thing under twelve names: a gazette, at a headline price that cannot include the Government fee. One of them tells readers to publish in "the Gazette of Jharkhand", which has no route for a personal notice. Another lists a Gazette office in Bhopal. This page is built differently. Each service below states the case it actually fits, the cheaper route where one exists, and the Government fee on its own line, so you can tell before calling whether you need us at all.

Two things stay the same across every service, and both are explained in full in the gazette name change in Jharkhand guide. The only place a personal name change is published for a Jharkhand resident is Part IV of the Gazette of India, from the Department of Publication at Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the file is delivered there in your own name because the Department does not accept agents. And nothing prints until you have confirmed the exact wording in writing, because the fee is non-refundable.

Key takeaways

  • Most services on this page are variations of one file: affidavit, two newspaper pages, and the Part IV proforma. What changes is the wording and the supporting document.
  • A change of name and a wrongly written name are two different notices with two different wordings. Using the wrong one is a rejection.
  • Three services here are advice services, not gazette services: birth certificate, JAC certificate and date of birth. We tell you the right office and quote nothing we cannot deliver.
  • Surname-only change after marriage usually needs no gazette. We check before charging.
  • Every Government fee here is revised each financial year and is non-refundable. We confirm the figure on the day of filing.

Central Gazette Name Change Service in Jharkhand

The core service. A change of name published in Part IV of the Gazette of India, accepted everywhere in India and by foreign missions.

Fits this case

Your first name or whole name is changing, or the new spelling exists on no document you hold, such as a numerology-driven change, a conversion, or a name chosen by personal preference. Also where an institution has asked for a gazette in writing.

Does not fit

The six UIDAI no-gazette categories for Aadhaar: typographical mistakes, transliteration, regional language updates, marriage, divorce or adoption changes, initials, and name order. Those need the supporting document only.

What we deliver

The affidavit, both newspaper pages, the CD certificate and Word soft copy, the request letter to the Controller of Publications, and the proforma in two copies headed "No. ADVT IV /", signed in your old name with two witnesses. Delivered to Civil Lines, Delhi 110054 in your name. Published PDF sent with the record update checklist.

Government fee commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, on BharatKosh in your name, revised each financial year and non-refundable. Publication commonly 30 to 45 days. The Jharkhand Gazette, printed at the Government Press in Doranda, Ranchi, publishes Government notifications only and has no route for this, which is why the file goes to Delhi. As reported, it stopped printing personal name changes in July 2025 and the practice is under inquiry.

Name Change Affidavit Drafting and Notarisation in Jharkhand

The first paper in every file, and the one everything else copies from.

Fits this case

Every gazette file. Also the standalone one-and-the-same-person affidavit, where two properly issued documents carry two spellings of your name and a bank, employer or college will accept a sworn statement that both are you.

Does not fit

Boards, passport counters, recruitment panels and UIDAI for a major change usually do not accept an affidavit alone. If that is where your problem sits, the affidavit is step one of a gazette file, not the answer by itself.

What we deliver

The affidavit typed on non-judicial stamp paper with a verification clause, stating old name, new name, father's or husband's name, address and reason, and the child's date of birth for a minor. Read back to you letter by letter, then sworn before a notary in your district.

Cost is the stamp paper and the notary's charge, commonly Rs 100 to Rs 500 in Jharkhand, passed on at actual cost. The Department expects the affidavit to be reasonably fresh at filing, so we do not swear it months before the file is ready.

Newspaper Name Change Notice in Jharkhand, Hindi and English

Two dailies, identical wording, complete original pages collected for the file.

Fits this case

Every gazette file. Also on its own: Passport Seva accepts two newspaper notices as an alternative to the gazette for a change of name, provided two documents already carry the new name.

Which papers

One Hindi daily and one English daily circulating in Jharkhand. The Ranchi editions of the big Hindi dailies and the English dailies with a Jharkhand edition all work. We choose by cost and by how quickly the office issues the complete page. Never a weekly.

What we deliver

The notice booked in both papers with the same wording, the proof checked before it prints, and the complete original pages, masthead and date visible, collected and scanned. Cuttings are not accepted by the Department, so we never send cuttings.

Newspaper charges commonly Rs 800 to Rs 4,000 for both, passed on at actual cost. The Department's adult guideline mentions one daily; we recommend two and say why: a second notice costs a few hundred rupees and a returned file costs six weeks and the fee.

Public Notice for a Wrongly Written Name on Certificates

The Jharkhand service. A different wording from a change of name, and the one most often needed here.

Fits this case

Your name is misprinted on a JAC Class 10 or 12 certificate, a university degree or another certificate, and the issuing office cannot correct it because its own register carries the same wrong spelling. Also a parent's name wrongly written on the same certificates.

Does not fit

Where one record is the odd one out and the issuing office can correct it against your Class 10 certificate. That is a counter correction, no gazette. We check this first.

What we deliver

A PUBLIC NOTICE proforma that names each certificate in turn and quotes each wrong spelling exactly as printed, punctuation included, then states the actual and correct name. Never "hitherto known as" wording, which says you chose a new name and gets a correction rejected.

Illustrative wording: "PUBLIC NOTICE. I, Sunil Tirkey, son of Mangra Tirkey, residing at Gumla, Jharkhand, declare that my name has been wrongly written as SUNIL TIRKI in my JAC Class 10 certificate and as SUNEEL TIRKEY in my Class 12 certificate, whereas my actual and correct name is SUNIL TIRKEY, which may be amended accordingly." Not a real client.

Government fee commonly Rs 1,350 (Rs 1,100 plus Rs 250 with an undertaking), on BharatKosh, revised each financial year. One notice can cover several certificates and, for a family, several members.

Minor Name Change in Jharkhand, Through a Parent or Guardian

Fits this case

A child under 18 whose name is changing: a chosen new name, a name after adoption, or a name that has to be settled before a JAC result is declared.

Does not fit

A spelling on the school record that the school can correct against its admission register, or an Aadhaar correction inside the six no-gazette categories.

What we deliver

The affidavit stating the child's date of birth, both newspaper pages, and the proforma headed "SPECIMEN FORM FOR CHANGE OF NAME OF MINOR" with the parent as applicant. The parent signs; the child signs nothing. Where only one parent signs, a custody or guardianship order is attached.

Government fee commonly Rs 1,700, on BharatKosh, revised each financial year. For a current JAC student we advise publishing before the result is declared, because boards are far stricter afterwards.

Surname Change After Marriage in Jharkhand

The service we most often tell people they do not need.

Usually no gazette

For a surname-only change, Aadhaar and PAN accept the registered marriage certificate alone, and Passport Seva treats it as a re-issue with no proof beyond the form. Under the RBI rule, your old-name Aadhaar stays valid KYC when shown with the State Government marriage certificate.

A gazette when

Your given name is also changing, your documents disagreed before the marriage, or a specific institution has asked for a gazette in writing. Then the affidavit names the maiden name, the married name and the date of marriage, and the certificate is attached.

What we deliver

First, a written answer on whether you need a gazette. If not, the update checklist for Aadhaar, PAN and passport with the certificate. If yes, the full gazette file at the adult fee.

Reverting to a Maiden Name After Divorce in Jharkhand

Standard proof

A certified copy of the decree is what Aadhaar, PAN and Passport Seva accept for going back to the name you held before marriage. The passport form needs nothing more.

Gazette as fallback

Only where the decree does not record the name you are reverting to, or where you are adopting a wholly new name rather than the old one.

What we deliver

A written route check, the update checklist with the decree, and the gazette file only if the fallback applies. Courts do not publish this for you.

Surname Change in Jharkhand: Adding, Dropping or Changing a Surname

Fits this case

Adding a surname where your records carry only a first name, dropping a caste or community surname, or taking a surname unconnected to marriage. All three are changes that exist on no document you hold, so the Central Gazette is the instrument.

Does not fit

A surname spelt two ways by two clerks. Hembrom and Hembram, Tirkey and Tirki, Kujur and Kujoor are the same surname. That is a correction against your Class 10 certificate, or a public notice if the register itself is wrong. And a married surname is usually the marriage certificate, not a gazette.

What we deliver

A written answer on which of the three it is, then the right file: the gazette change of name at commonly Rs 1,100, the public notice at commonly Rs 1,350, or the counter correction with no gazette at all.

A Jharkhand-specific note. Where records show only a first name because the school register was filled that way, adding the family surname is common and the gazette handles it cleanly. Decide the exact Roman spelling first, because Aadhaar allows only two name updates in a lifetime.

Name Change in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Bokaro

Same file, same fee, same Delhi publication. What changes by city is where the affidavit is sworn and which newspaper editions we book.

Ranchi

Our own desk near Shaheed Chowk. Affidavit at the civil court notary, Ranchi editions of the Hindi and English dailies, Ranchi PSK for the passport afterwards.

Jamshedpur

Notary at the Sakchi court complex, Jamshedpur editions, and the Jamshedpur POPSK for the passport re-issue. Steel and PSU employees add the departmental deed.

Dhanbad

Dhanbad court notary, Dhanbad editions of the dailies, Dhanbad POPSK. Coal sector employees follow the Government employee route.

Bokaro

Bokaro court notary, editions circulating in Bokaro, passport through the nearest PSK or POPSK. Same file, delivered in your name.

Every other district works the same way: Hazaribagh, Deoghar, Giridih, Ramgarh, Dumka, Palamu and the rest. The list is in the coverage section below.

Government Employee Name Change in Jharkhand

Fits this case

Central Government employees, including railway, coal and steel PSU staff and central police forces posted in Jharkhand, and State Government employees whose establishment section asks for a deed alongside the gazette.

The extra paper

A deed of change of name under Ministry of Home Affairs Office Memorandum No. 190016/1/87-Estt.(A) dated 12 March 1987, reciting former name, designation and place of employment, signed in the new name and commonly witnessed by two Gazetted officers of the same Department.

What we deliver

The deed in the format your department confirms in writing, the gazette file, and the application through your office so the service book is attested by the Head of Office. Publication is at the employee's own expense.

Ask your establishment section which instrument it will act on before spending anything. The Jharkhand Gazette does not publish personal notices, so the Central Gazette is what the file carries.

Father's or Mother's Name Correction on Your Documents in Jharkhand

Fits this case

A parent's name written differently across your JAC certificate, Aadhaar and other records. Recruitment boards list a father's name mismatch as its own rejection reason, so this matters for jobs.

Two anchors

Your parent's own documents establish what his name is. Your Class 10 certificate establishes what your records are judged against. They can disagree. Where several children are affected, it is cheaper for the parent to publish one notice than for each child to patch around it.

What we deliver

A public notice that corrects your name and your parent's name in the same notice where useful, or the parent's own notice covering every certificate. Note that Aadhaar has no father's name field; a parent appears only in the optional care-of line.

Aadhaar, PAN, Bank and Passport Name Update After the Gazette

Doing this in the wrong order turns a four week job into a four month one.

Record updates after the Gazette in the order Jharkhandnamechange.com runs them
OrderRecordFee and note
1Aadhaar, at a Seva Kendra in your districtRs 50 to Rs 75 per attempt, not refunded on rejection. Name can be updated twice in a lifetime. Gazette address should match the Aadhaar address.
2PAN correctionRs 72 or Rs 107 depending on dispatch. The PAN number never changes.
3Bank accountsFree. Banks check the Aadhaar and PAN pair, so both must agree first.
4Passport re-issue, Ranchi PSK or a POPSKPassport Seva fee. Needs the gazette plus two documents already in the new name. The passport number changes and old visas do not carry over.
5Voter ID (Form 8) and driving licenceVoter ID free; DL through Sarathi at the RTO that holds the licence, number unchanged.
6EPFO, UAN, insurance, NPSSelf-serve where the UAN is post 1 October 2017 and Aadhaar-validated. Nominations updated separately.

We run these for you in this order, or send you the checklist to run yourself. Either way the order does not change.

Name Change in Voter ID, Driving Licence, Bank, Insurance, Ration Card, Caste and Property Records in Jharkhand

Each record has its own office and its own proof. The gazette supports these applications; it never replaces the office's own procedure.

Where each Jharkhand record is corrected after a name change, and the proof it wants
RecordWhere it is correctedProof it wants
Voter IDForm 8 on the Election Commission portal or through the ERO for your constituency. Free. The old EPIC is returned.Updated Aadhaar or the gazette
Driving licence and RCSarathi for the licence, at the RTO that holds it, Aadhaar e-KYC; Vahan for the RC. The licence number does not change.Updated Aadhaar; gazette for a full change
Bank recordsYour branch, after Aadhaar and PAN agree. Under the RBI rule your old-name Aadhaar stays valid KYC when shown with the marriage certificate or the gazette.Gazette or State marriage certificate, updated PAN
LIC and insuranceThe policy servicing branch; nominations are updated separately and are the thing people forget.Gazette or marriage certificate, updated ID
Ration cardThe Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department's Aahar Jharkhand portal or the block supply office, for each family member named.Updated Aadhaar of the member
Caste, residence, income and EWS certificatesApplied through the JharSewa e-District portal and issued by the competent revenue officer for your block or sub-division. A corrected certificate is usually a fresh issue, not an amendment.Updated Aadhaar, the gazette, and the earlier certificate
OBC certificateSame JharSewa route. Check whether you need the state format or the central format before applying; they are different documents. As above
Property documentsJamabandi and mutation through the Circle Officer on the state land records portal; a registered deed is corrected by a rectification deed at the Sub-Registrar.Gazette, updated Aadhaar, the existing record

Portal names change. The offices above are the ones that hold the records; confirm the current portal or counter for your district before applying, or send us the record and we will check it for you.

Birth Certificate and JAC Certificate Correction in Jharkhand: Advice, Not a Gazette

Two services where the honest answer is a different office.

Birth certificate

A spelling mistake or wrong parent's name on a birth certificate is a Registrar correction under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, at the office that holds the register: the Ranchi Municipal Corporation for a city birth, the Nagar Parishad or Nagar Panchayat for a smaller town, the block registrar for a village. A name never entered goes under Section 14. A gazette never updates the register. For an adult with a gazette, the realistic outcome at the Registrar is an annotation against the entry, which must be asked for by name.

JAC certificate

The Jharkhand Academic Council corrects a Class 10 or 12 certificate against the school's admission register, through the school, with its own form and fee. Get a certified register extract first. If the register carries the same wrong spelling, there is nothing to correct against and the public notice above becomes the instrument. Ask whether the school still holds the original admission form; it sometimes differs from the register and reopens the clean route.

No gazette changes a date of birth. If someone quotes you a gazette for that, they are selling something that does not work. We will tell you which Registrar or board route applies and quote nothing we cannot deliver.

Which Name Change Route Do You Need in Jharkhand?

Not every name change goes through the Gazette. A clerical error is fixed at the source office. Use this table before you spend anything, and see which steps can be done from a phone on the name change online page.

Which route applies to each situation for a Jharkhand resident, and the proof each needs
Your situationCorrect routeUsual proof
A wholly new name, by choiceCentral Gazette change of nameAffidavit, two newspaper pages, Part IV proforma
Surname change after marriageUsually no Gazette. The marriage certificate is what Aadhaar, PAN, the passport office, banks and the RTO ask forRegistered marriage certificate
Name misprinted on a JAC or university certificateThe issuing office against its register; a PUBLIC NOTICE only if the register carries the same errorClass 10 certificate, register extract
Clerical error in a birth certificateRegistrar correction under Section 15 of the RBD Act, 1969Supporting ID and records
Name on Aadhaar, PAN or passportUpdate at the issuing authority, in orderGazette or the supporting document
Surname spelt two ways across documentsCorrection against the anchor document; one-and-the-same-person affidavit for banks and employersClass 10 certificate, affidavit
Government employeeDepartmental deed plus the Central GazetteDeed under the 1987 MHA memorandum
One route Jharkhand does not have. Bihar, West Bengal and Karnataka run a state gazette route for personal notices. Jharkhand does not; the Jharkhand Gazette carries Government notifications only. Every gazette on this page is the Gazette of India, filed in Delhi.

You Probably Need a Sequence, Not a Single Service

The list above is twenty-eight services. Almost nobody needs one of them. What you have is a situation, and each situation is a chain in a particular order, because each step is the proof for the next.

Common situations in Jharkhand and the sequence of services each one needs
Your situationThe chain, in orderThe thing people get wrong
Married, taking a new surnameMarriage certificate, then Aadhaar, PAN, bank, passport, the restBuying a gazette first. Most offices want the certificate, not a gazette.
Divorced, going back to your maiden nameDecree, then Aadhaar, PAN, bank, passportAssuming the decree changes the name by itself. It is only the proof.
A genuinely new name, by choiceAffidavit, newspapers, Gazette, then Aadhaar, PAN, bank, passport, certificatesUpdating one document and stopping. A half-finished chain causes every problem people blame on the process.
Surname spelt differently on JAC certificate and AadhaarDecide the anchor spelling, correct the odd record at its office, or public notice if the register is wrong, then AadhaarPaying for a change of name when it is a correction, and spending one of the two Aadhaar updates on the wrong spelling.
Wrong name on a child's birth certificateRegistrar correction, then school records, then AadhaarGoing to the Gazette. A clerical error in a birth certificate is a Registrar matter under the 1969 Act.
Name on a degree does not match your passportGazette, then the board or university endorsement, then keep both togetherExpecting a reprinted degree. Most universities issue a linking letter instead, and that is what employers accept.
Central job verification in three weeks, father's name mismatchedPublic notice quoting each certificate, then Aadhaar and PAN so the panel sees one nameLetting each sibling fix it separately when one notice by the father covers everyone.
Government employee changing nameDeed, then Central Gazette, then service book, then personal documentsTreating the service record like any other document. It has its own rule.
Why Aadhaar sits so early in every chain. Every other office reads the name on your Aadhaar. An Aadhaar that already agrees with your claim turns each later application into a formality. But UIDAI allows only two name updates in a lifetime, not two a year, two ever, so settle the exact spelling before you file the first one.

When You Do Not Need a Name Change Service at All

We would rather tell you this now than take a fee for something you did not need.

You almost certainly do not need us

  • A married surname on your passport. The marriage certificate is accepted on re-issue. No gazette, no agent.
  • A voter ID correction. Form 8, online, free. The Election Commission charges nothing.
  • A one or two letter spelling fix where an existing ID already shows the right spelling.
  • Any of the six UIDAI no-gazette categories for an Aadhaar update.
  • Downloading a gazette you already published. It is a free public record on egazette.gov.in.
  • Document attestation. That is a Gazetted officer at your block or district office, not a gazette and not us.

Where a service earns its fee

  • Your name differs across Aadhaar, PAN and your JAC certificates and you do not know which one to make the anchor.
  • An application has already been returned once and you do not know why.
  • The certificate register itself is wrong, so the public notice wording has to quote each certificate exactly.
  • A board, university or recruitment panel is asking for something the rest of your paperwork does not obviously satisfy.
  • Several people are involved: a child, a parent whose name is also wrong, a spouse who must also sign.
  • You are outside Jharkhand or abroad and need the file built and delivered in your name without a trip.

What Happens If a Name Change Application Is Rejected?

No competing service page for Jharkhand explains this. It is the thing people most want to know before handing over money, so here it is by document.

What to do when a name change application is rejected, by document
Where it was rejectedWhat you can actually do
Gazette file returned by the DepartmentNearly always curable: a spelling that does not match, a proforma signed in the new name, one witness, a cutting instead of a page, "hitherto known as" wording used for a correction. Fix and re-file. There is no appeal to exhaust because nothing has been decided against you. The fee already paid is not refunded, so the second file must be right.
Voter ID (Form 8)If the ERO considered your documents and still refused, that is an order, and Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 gives an appeal to the District Magistrate and then the Chief Electoral Officer, within fifteen days. Check which kind of refusal it was before simply re-applying.
AadhaarRe-submit at a Seva Kendra with the corrected document set. The fee per attempt is not refunded, and a rejected request should not be re-filed carelessly because of the two-updates-a-lifetime limit. Beyond the limit a UIDAI Regional Office exception route exists but is slow and rarely granted.
PANAlmost always a mismatch with Aadhaar. Fix Aadhaar first, then re-file. Re-filing PAN against an unchanged Aadhaar produces the same rejection.
Birth certificateA Registrar refusal has its own route under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, including delayed registration and the Magistrate's order under Section 13(3) where a name was never entered. This is the one where the correct next step is worth asking about before acting.
JAC or universityUsually a documentary gap rather than a refusal on merits. Ask, in writing, exactly which document they want; that question resolves most of these. If they say the register itself carries the error, the public notice route opens.
PassportCommonly the two supporting documents in the new name were missing. Update Aadhaar and PAN, then re-apply. The Passport Seva grievance portal handles disputed refusals.
The habit that protects you. Check status weekly while anything is pending and keep the screenshot. Several of these routes run on a deadline from the date of the order, not from the day you noticed it, and a monthly check can lose you an appeal window you never knew had opened.

Name Change Service Terms Explained for Jharkhand

The words used across the services above, each defined so it stands on its own.

Change of name notice
The Part IV proforma for adopting a new name, worded "hitherto known as ... shall hereafter be known as", signed in the old name with two witnesses. Government fee commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult.
Public notice
The Part IV proforma for a name wrongly written on certificates. It names each certificate and quotes the wrong spelling exactly as printed, then states the correct name. Government fee commonly Rs 1,350.
Minor specimen form
The proforma headed "SPECIMEN FORM FOR CHANGE OF NAME OF MINOR", where a parent or guardian is the applicant and the child signs nothing. Government fee commonly Rs 1,700.
Anchor document
The record every other record is judged against when spellings differ. For most people in Jharkhand it is the JAC Class 10 certificate.
One-and-the-same-person affidavit
A sworn statement that two spellings on two properly issued documents refer to one person. Accepted by banks, employers and colleges; usually not by boards, passport counters or recruitment panels.
Six no-gazette categories
The Aadhaar updates that need only a supporting document under the UIDAI SOP of 28 October 2021: typographical, transliteration, regional language, marriage or divorce or adoption, initials, and name order.
Deed of change of name
The Government employee's instrument under the Ministry of Home Affairs Office Memorandum of 12 March 1987, signed in the new name, commonly witnessed by two Gazetted officers, filed so the service book is updated.
Registrar correction
A correction to a birth record under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, at the Municipal Corporation, Nagar Parishad, Nagar Panchayat or block registrar that holds the register. Not a gazette matter.
Linking letter
What most universities issue instead of reprinting a degree after a name change: a letter stating that the graduate named on the degree and the person named in the gazette are the same. Employers accept the pair.
Record update order
Aadhaar, then PAN, then bank, then passport, then voter ID and driving licence, then EPFO and insurance, then education, ration, caste and property records. Each step is the proof for the next.
BharatKosh
The Non-Tax Receipt Portal at bharatkosh.gov.in, the only channel for the Central Gazette fee, paid in the applicant's own name. Fees are revised each financial year and are non-refundable.
Jharkhand Gazette
The State Government's weekly gazette, printed at the Government Press in Doranda, Ranchi. It publishes Government notifications and has no route for a personal change of name.

Why Jharkhand Residents Choose Us for Name Change Services

We do more than file a form. From the first call to the published PDF, one desk guides every step.

We know the one route Jharkhand has

No state gazette to sell you. Every file goes to Part IV in Delhi, and we say so instead of inventing a "Gazette office, Ranchi".

Complete paperwork, right wording

Affidavit, both newspapers, CD certificate, request letter and the proforma in two copies, in the correct wording for a change or a correction, checked before it leaves Ranchi.

Real people, in Hindi and English

A desk near Shaheed Chowk you can walk into, and the same advisor on the same number from first scan to published PDF.

All 24 districts

Built in Ranchi, delivered in Delhi in your name, so Sahibganj and Garhwa get the same file as Ranchi.

Correction versus change expertise

Hembrom or Hembram is a correction. A new name is a change. Getting that right is the difference between Rs 0 and a wasted fee.

Two fee lines, always

Government fee on BharatKosh in your name, our charge quoted per case. Nobody on this desk publishes a price that cannot include the Government fee.

Questions About Our Name Change Services in Jharkhand

Which name change service do I need?+
It depends on whether the name you want already exists on a document you hold. If it does and one record is odd, it is a correction at that office. If it exists on nothing, it is a Central Gazette change of name. If a certificate is misprinted and the issuing office cannot fix it, it is a public notice. Send one scan and we tell you which.
Do you publish in the Jharkhand Gazette?+
No, and neither does anyone else. The Jharkhand Gazette, printed at the Government Press in Doranda, Ranchi, carries Government notifications and has no route for a personal name change. Every gazette service on this page is published in Part IV of the Gazette of India from Delhi.
What is the difference between a change of name and a public notice?+
A change of name says you have adopted a new name and uses "hitherto known as" wording. A public notice says your name was wrongly written on a certificate and quotes the wrong version exactly, then states the correct one. They are different proformas with different fees, commonly Rs 1,100 and Rs 1,350, and using the wrong one gets the file returned.
How much do your services cost?+
The Government fee is commonly Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor and Rs 1,350 for a public notice, on BharatKosh, revised each financial year. Newspapers and notary are passed on at actual cost. Our service charge is quoted per case and always shown as a separate line. Call 9540005002 for a fixed quote.
Do I need a gazette to change my surname after marriage?+
Usually not. For a surname-only change, Aadhaar and PAN accept the registered marriage certificate alone and Passport Seva needs nothing beyond the form. A gazette applies only where your given name also changes, your documents disagreed before the marriage, or an institution has asked for one in writing.
Can you correct my birth certificate through the gazette?+
No, and we will not sell that. A birth record is corrected by the Registrar under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 at the office that holds the register. A gazette never updates the register. We tell you the right office and, where a gazette is genuinely also needed for a change going forward, quote that separately.
Can you fix my JAC certificate?+
The Jharkhand Academic Council corrects a certificate against the school's admission register, through the school. We help you get the register extract and the application right. If the register itself carries the wrong spelling, the public notice service is the instrument, and we handle that.
How long does each service take?+
Any gazette service is commonly 30 to 45 days to publication, 3 to 7 weeks end to end. An affidavit alone is done in a day or two, newspaper notices in a week including page collection. Record updates after publication depend on each office; Aadhaar first, then PAN, bank and passport.
Do you submit the file as my agent?+
No. The Department of Publication accepts applications only in the applicant's own name, in person or by post. We prepare, check and deliver the file in your name from our Delhi office. Any provider claiming to submit as your agent is describing something the Department does not allow.
Can I buy only the affidavit or only the newspaper notice?+
Yes. The affidavit on its own is useful as a one-and-the-same-person affidavit for banks, employers and colleges. Two newspaper notices on their own are accepted by Passport Seva as an alternative to the gazette for a change of name. We will tell you honestly whether the standalone paper will be accepted where you need it.
What do Government employees need that others do not?+
A deed of change of name under the Ministry of Home Affairs Office Memorandum of 12 March 1987, signed in the new name and commonly witnessed by two Gazetted officers of the same Department, filed through your own office so the service book is updated. Ask your establishment section which instrument it accepts before paying anything.
Do you handle the Aadhaar, PAN and passport updates too?+
Yes, in the correct order: Aadhaar first, then PAN, bank, passport, voter ID and driving licence, then EPFO and insurance. Aadhaar is Rs 50 to Rs 75 per attempt and allows a name update twice in a lifetime; PAN is Rs 72 or Rs 107; the passport re-issue needs two documents already in the new name.
Can a Jharkhand native living abroad use your services?+
Yes. The affidavit is attested at the Indian mission where you live and the newspapers still circulate in Jharkhand if that is the address on your documents. A higher Government fee applies to applicants outside India; we confirm the current figure before filing.
Is there a service you will refuse?+
Yes. A gazette to fix a birth certificate or a date of birth, a Jharkhand Gazette personal notice, a gazette for a surname-only marriage change that the certificate already covers, and any name change meant to defraud someone or hide a liability.
