Gazette Name Change Rejection Reasons in Jharkhand
A rejected gazette file is the most expensive thing that happens at this stage: about six weeks gone, the Government fee gone, and often the affidavit and the two newspaper notices to be done again. It is also almost always caused by something small, and the same handful of things keep doing it. The Department of Publication does not correct a file for you and does not keep part of it; if one detail is wrong, the whole envelope comes back to your own address in Jharkhand. Rejection Reasons the Internet Lists That Do Not Apply in Jharkhand
"Expired Aadhaar or PAN"
Neither expires. A card that is worn or whose photograph is old is not a defect; a name on it that differs from the affidavit is, and that is the mismatch reason above.
"Blurry scans or cropped uploads"
A Part IV file is paper and a CD; there is nothing to upload. This is advice copied from portals in other States and from passport processes.
"Officials will phone your witnesses"
Not the Department's practice. Witnesses must be real and their Aadhaar copies enclosed, but the rejection comes from a missing pin code or a single witness, not from a phone call.
"Clippings older than two months"
Stricter than the Department's practice, which reads papers up to about a year old. Refreshing at two months wastes a newspaper fee; holding papers for a year and a half wastes the whole file.
"Rejected for choosing the wrong State gazette"
There is no State route for a personal name in Jharkhand and, as reported, the State Press stopped its own practice in July 2025. A Jharkhand file has only one destination and cannot be rejected for choosing between them.
"You can email a correction"
The Department deals in paper files. A returned file is refiled as a fresh envelope with a fresh fee and a covering letter that says so; nothing is fixed by email.

How it arrives
By post, to the sender's name and address on the envelope you sent, usually four to ten weeks after you posted it. It carries your original papers and a note or marking stating the defect. There is no email, no SMS and no phone call.
What to do the same day
Open it, read the stated defect, photograph everything including the covering note, and check what has aged: the affidavit's date and the newspaper dates. Do not throw away the old receipt; it is evidence of the first attempt, though not of a payment you can reuse.

Sworn on non-judicial stamp paper before a notary at your district court, in the OLD name as on your current Aadhaar: old name, new name, father's or husband's name, address with pin code, reason, verification clause, notary seal and register number. Two newspaper notices, day 3 to 7

Reading the published notice
The e-Gazette PDF carries the Gazette of India number, the Part IV heading, the date of publication, the page number and your notice in its own paragraph. Every office reads the number, the date and the page; write them on every covering letter. A notice with a misprint is corrected by corrigendum within six months, free where the press erred; a corrected notice is what each office gets.
