Gazette Corrigendum for a Wrong Name Change Notification
You downloaded the Part IV issue, found your notice, and the name is wrong: a letter missing, a father's name spelt another way, an address that is not yours. A published gazette cannot be deleted, edited in place or unpublished, but it can be corrected by a corrigendum, a second notice that names the first and states what it should have said. The two rules that matter are the window and the blame: six months from the date of publication, and free where the Government press misprinted what your proforma said, at the fee again where your own proforma carried the error. A corrigendum is the Department of Publication's correction of an already published Part IV notice, and it is how a wrong name in the Gazette of India is fixed for an applicant from Jharkhand. Ask for it within six months of the date of publication, by a written request to the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, enclosing a print of the published notice with the error marked, a photocopy of the proforma you submitted, a copy of the affidavit and the newspaper page, your ID copy, and your contact details, signed in the same old name you used on the original file. If the Government press misprinted what your proforma correctly said, the corrigendum is free, and the photocopy of your submitted proforma is the proof of that. Afterwards both notices are carried together to Aadhaar, PAN, the passport office and everywhere else, and that pair is what those offices read. If the six months have passed, a corrigendum is no longer available and the fix is a fresh notice with a fresh file, fresh newspapers and a fresh fee. And if the notice is correct but you have changed your mind about the name, that is not a corrigendum at all; it is a further change of name, filed from the beginning.

Lay two papers side by side: the published notice and your own copy of the proforma you posted to Delhi. Whatever the proforma says is what you asked for; whatever the notice says is what was printed. The difference between them is the whole enquiry.

What Goes in a Gazette Corrigendum Request to the Controller of Publications
The letter
- To the Controller of Publications, Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054; the date; your address.
- Subject: Corrigendum to change of name notice published in the Gazette of India, Part IV.
- The issue number, the date of publication, the page number and the No. ADVT IV number of the notice.
- One sentence stating what was printed and what it should read, quoting both exactly.

How the Corrected Notice Reads, and How to Use Two Notices at a Counter
The corrigendum appears in a later weekly Part IV issue as its own short notice. It names the earlier issue, its date and page, and states the correction: what was published and what it should read. Your original notice stays exactly where it was, in the issue it was printed in, because the Gazette is a record of what was published on a date and nothing is removed from it.

Search Part IV for the corrigendum the same way you searched for the original, in the weeks after the request; download that whole issue too. Now you have two PDFs, two issue numbers, two dates and two page numbers.
Print them together
Original notice page, corrigendum page, cover pages of both, stapled as one set, with a covering sheet giving both issue numbers, dates and pages in order. Never hand over only the corrigendum; it is meaningless alone.
Explain in one line

Where the Error Entered: The Central Gazette Process From Jharkhand, Step by Step
A corrigendum is decided by finding where the wrong letter first appeared, so the sequence below is also the diagnosis: whichever paper first carried the error is the paper that decides whether the correction is free. There is no Gazette office in Jharkhand; the file goes to the Department of Publication in Delhi in your own name.
Route check and wording, day 0
Confirm that you need a gazette at all: a marriage surname, a divorce and a spelling correction do not, and the six UIDAI categories reach Aadhaar without one. Then fix the exact new name, spacing and initials included, and confirm it in writing. Every later paper copies this wording, and a corrigendum is what happens when one of them did not.
Affidavit, day 1 to 2
Sworn on non-judicial stamp paper before a notary at your district court, in the OLD name as on your current Aadhaar: old name, new name, father's or husband's name, address with pin code, reason, verification clause, notary seal and register number. Two newspaper notices, day 3 to 7

Reading the published notice
The e-Gazette PDF carries the Gazette of India number, the Part IV heading, the date of publication, the page number and your notice in its own paragraph. Every office reads the number, the date and the page; where there is a corrigendum, it reads both sets. A notice with a misprint is corrected by corrigendum within six months, free where the press erred; a corrected notice is what each office gets, together with the original.
