Name Change in Jamshedpur

Why One Name Is Spelt Six Ways in Jamshedpur
The Jamshedpur urban block is the most linguistically mixed place in Jharkhand. In the last full census count for the Golmuri-cum-Jugsalai block, which covers Jamshedpur and Mango, Hindi was the mother tongue of about 44 per cent of people, followed by Bengali at about 20 per cent, Urdu at about 12 per cent, Odia at about 6 per cent, Santali at about 5 per cent and Ho at about 3 per cent, with Mundari, Kurukh, Punjabi, Maithili, Telugu and Tamil below them. A steel town drew families from everywhere and their names came with them.
What it does to a file
A Bengali surname written by a Hindi-speaking clerk, a Ho or Santali name transliterated by ear, an Urdu name spelt as it sounded in the admission register: the same person ends up as three people across a school certificate, an Aadhaar card and a service file.
Why it is not a name change
None of these forms is a new name, so the gazette's change-of-name wording is the wrong instrument. The route is a correction at the issuing office, and where a certificate cannot be corrected, a public notice quoting the wrong spelling exactly. The spelling correction page carries the router.

A Jharkhand Academic Council certificate is corrected against the school's admission register, and the application travels through the school, not through you.
