Name Change in Ramgarh

Ramgarh Cantonment Board or Nagar Parishad: Which One Registered Your Birth
Ramgarh Cantonment is a cantonment town, home to the regimental centres of two of the country's oldest infantry regiments, and it is administered by a cantonment board under the Ministry of Defence rather than by the state's urban department. The district's own birth certificate page says it plainly, directing applicants to the nearest Pragya Kendra, the Cantonment, or Nagar Parishad Ramgarh. Two counters, two registers, one town.
How to tell which is yours
The certificate itself names the issuing authority, and a cantonment certificate carries the board's name and seal. If you have lost the certificate, the address at the time of birth decides it: inside the cantonment limits, the board; outside them, the Nagar Parishad.
Neither can correct the other's register
A Section 15 correction is made by the registrar who holds the entry. Being sent from one office to the other is the standard Ramgarh wasted morning, and it is avoided by reading the certificate before you leave home.
The military connection is separate again
Service records of a serving soldier follow the unit's own procedure and the Army's rules, not the cantonment board's civil register. The civil certificate is corrected first, because the unit will ask for it.
Why an Older Ramgarh Record Sits With Hazaribagh District
Ramgarh was a subdivision of Hazaribagh before it was made a district on 12 September 2007. For anyone born, schooled or certified before that date, the paper was created under Hazaribagh, and registers stay with the office that wrote them.
