Name Change Problems and Mistakes in Jharkhand
The expensive mistakes in this subject are not the ones people worry about. Nobody loses money on a typing error in the affidavit. They lose it on three things that are written down in Government documents and almost never repeated. The Unique Identification Authority of India's own procedure says the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime", and past that you are into an exception process. The Income Tax Department lists "Obtaining multiple PAN" as a default, and the penalty provision reads "a sum of ten thousand rupees". And the gazette guidelines say "The documents must not be older than one year", so papers bought in stages can expire before the file is made. This page is the list of what actually goes wrong, with the sentence behind each one.
The five mistakes that cost the most are all made before anything is filed, and four of them have a published sentence behind them. One, doing a change of name when you needed a correction, which is the commonest and the most wasteful, because a mistyped letter nobody ever changed is fixed against the office's own entry. Two, spending an Aadhaar name update carelessly, because the Authority's procedure states the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime" and beyond that "Update requests beyond allowed chances will only be considered through the exception handling process." Three, applying for a fresh PAN in the new name instead of correcting the old one, because the Income Tax Department lists "Obtaining multiple PAN" as a default and the penalty section provides "a sum of ten thousand rupees". Four, letting papers age out, because "The documents must not be older than one year." Five, updating records in the wrong order, which costs no fee at all and quietly doubles the number of visits. None of these is about the affidavit's wording, which is what everybody asks us about first.
The Name Change Mistakes That Cost the Most Money in Jharkhand
We have put these in order of what they cost rather than how often they happen, because the frequent small ones are annoying and the rare big ones are the reason people end up back at the beginning.
| The mistake | What it costs and the rule behind it |
|---|---|
| Applying for a new PAN in the new name | The single most expensive mistake on this page. The Income Tax Department lists "Obtaining multiple PAN" among the defaults for which a penalty may be imposed, and the penalty provision reads "a sum of ten thousand rupees". The PAN is corrected, never replaced |
| Spending an Aadhaar name update on a small experiment | The Authority's procedure states the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime". Use one on a spelling you are unsure about and you have one left for the rest of your life. Beyond the limit you enter an exception process rather than an ordinary update |
| Doing a change of name when you needed a correction | The commonest by a wide margin. A change of name notice declares you are now known by something different, which is not what happened when a clerk mistyped a letter. You pay for the wrong instrument and it contradicts your own birth certificate |
| Letting the papers age past a year | The gazette guidelines state "The documents must not be older than one year." Nothing warns you as the months pass, and you find out when the file is refused, with the Government charge already paid and not refunded |
| Buying a gazette for a record that never asked for one | Item 10 of Form 2 for a driving licence names an affidavit, a marriage certificate or a newspaper advertisement, and no gazette. We sell gazette filing and we are telling you this anyway. Our affidavit, newspaper or gazette page sets out which route names what |
| Throwing away the original newspapers | Both the gazette file and the passport route ask for originals. Publishing again is a full second advertisement charge and several more weeks |
| Updating records in the wrong order | Costs no fee at all and is still expensive, in bus fares, lost wages and repeat visits, because later offices read earlier documents |
Doing a Name Change When You Actually Needed a Name Correction
If we could fix one thing about how this subject is explained in Jharkhand, it would be this. Two completely different situations are sold as one service, and readers in the cheaper situation are routinely put through the expensive one.
| Which situation you are in | What it needs and what it does not |
|---|---|
| Nobody ever changed your name, a clerk typed it wrongly | This is a correction against the office's own original entry. A written request with your consistent documents attached is frequently the whole job. No affidavit, no newspaper, no gazette, no fee |
| You genuinely changed your name and want it recognised | This is a change of name, and the published route applies, with whichever paper your particular offices name |
| A name was wrongly written on a certificate and the register itself is right | A third situation again, with a different proforma and different wording, quoting the wrong spelling exactly as printed. Our public notice page deals with it |
| Why using the wrong one is worse than useless | A change of name notice declares that you are now known by something different. File that for a typing error and you have put on record a change that never happened, which any office comparing it with your birth certificate can see |
| How to tell which one you are in, in one question | Was there ever a moment when I decided to be called something else? If the answer is no, you are in a correction, however many documents disagree with each other |
| And the honest complication | Some records are a correction and others a change, in the same household, on the same day. That is normal and it is why the list of records comes before the decision |
The Aadhaar Name Update Limit That Causes the Worst Problems
This is the rule we most wish every reader in Jharkhand knew before they touched anything. The Unique Identification Authority of India's own procedure states that the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime."
Twice. Not twice a year. Twice, in a lifetime. And the same procedure says that "Update requests beyond allowed chances will only be considered through the exception handling process."
| What you should know | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| The limit is two, for a lifetime | Every update spends one. A spelling you were not sure about, a surname added and then regretted, an initial expanded and then shortened. Each of those is not a small experiment, it is half your allowance |
| Past the limit, you are in an exception process | Not an ordinary counter visit. The procedure has the resident "enrol for Aadhaar update at the nearest enrolment centre with concerned document and intimate UIDAI through mail", after which a Regional Office verifies it. Slower, and not guaranteed |
| What the exception process asks for in a complete name change | The procedure says a "Gazette Notification of name change to be uploaded as PoI document". So the exception route pushes you straight back to the gazette, whether or not you needed one before |
| What it asks for after a marriage, divorce or adoption | The corresponding marriage, divorce or adoption certificate as proof of identity. Which is why a registered marriage matters more than people think |
| The practical rule that follows from all of this | Settle the name completely before you touch the Aadhaar. Spelling, spacing, initials, surname, the order of the words. Then make one update, once, and never go back |
| And what we cannot tell you | We cannot tell you how a particular Regional Office will decide an exception request, and we will not pretend the exception route is routine. It exists, it is documented, and it is a great deal more work than getting it right the first time |
Why Applying for a New PAN in Your New Name Is a Costly Mistake
This one is easy to make and expensive to undo, and it happens because the instinct is sensible. Your name changed, so you apply for a card in the new name. That is not how the PAN works.
| The point | What the Income Tax Department publishes |
|---|---|
| Obtaining more than one PAN is a listed default | The Department's own material lists "Obtaining multiple PAN" among the defaults for which a penalty under the relevant section may be imposed |
| The penalty figure | The provision reads that the Assessing Officer "may direct that such person shall pay, by way of penalty, a sum of ten thousand rupees" for failure to comply with the PAN provisions |
| What you should do instead | Correct the existing PAN. The number stays the same and the name on it is updated. One PAN, for life, with the details amended as they change. Our PAN name change page covers it |
| The word may, and why we are not dramatising it | The provision says the officer may direct the penalty, so it is a power rather than an automatic charge, and the provision also requires that the person be given an opportunity of being heard. We are telling you the exposure, not predicting your case |
| If you already hold two | Do not simply ignore the second one. There is a surrender route for a duplicate, and dealing with it deliberately is a better position than waiting for it to surface in a return or a bank check |
| And a separate trap in the same family | The Reserve Bank's list of officially valid documents for bank records does not include the PAN. So a corrected PAN, useful as it is, will not by itself satisfy a bank asking for an officially valid document. Our KYC mismatch page explains that |
Name Change Problems Caused by Updating Records in the Wrong Order
This one costs nothing in fees and more than anything else in time, bus fares and lost wages. Offices read each other's documents, so the sequence decides how many visits you make.
| What people do | Why it sends them back |
|---|---|
| The bank before the Aadhaar | The bank works from officially valid documents, and the Aadhaar is one of the main ones. Go first and you will very likely go again. Note also that the Reserve Bank rule can keep an old document valid where a marriage certificate or a gazette notification supports it, which some branches have not been told |
| The passport before the identity documents | The proforma asks for "two government issued photo ID proofs containing the new name". So the passport counter expects other records to be changed already, and arriving first means arriving too early |
| The employer or pension record last | These are the records your money eventually comes out of, and they move slowly. Start the written request early even if it finishes last, and take a dated acknowledgement |
| The Aadhaar update squeezed against a deadline | The Authority states an update may take up to 90 days. Booking a verification or an appointment on the assumption it will be quicker is how a clean job turns into a crisis. Our timeline page sets out every published clock |
| Nominations left untouched throughout | Nominee names in bank accounts, insurance policies and provident fund records are separate entries. Nobody looks at them twice in a lifetime, and they surface at the worst possible moment |
| The order that avoids most of this | Aadhaar, then PAN, then banks, then passport, then driving licence, vehicle papers and insurance, then employment and pension records, then property and business registrations. Each one is read by the ones after it |
What to Do When an Office Refuses a Valid Name Change Document
It happens, and it is the problem people find most demoralising, because there is nothing left to buy. The instinct is to go back and purchase a stronger paper. That is usually the wrong move.
| The step | What to actually do |
|---|---|
| Do not buy another paper first | A refusal is rarely about the strength of your document. It is usually about a checklist somebody is working from. Find out what that checklist says before spending anything |
| Print the rule you are relying on | A quoted rule is treated differently from a remembered one. Take the published list with you, whether it is the Aadhaar supporting document list, the Reserve Bank rule or item 10 of Form 2 |
| Ask politely, once, and in writing | Which provision adds this requirement? Written, addressed to the office and not to an individual, and keep a copy. Sometimes the answer is a real internal circular, and then you comply and stop arguing |
| Take a dated acknowledgement for everything | Every request, every time. It is the foundation of anything that follows and it costs nothing to ask for |
| Use the written information route if it goes silent | In the normal course information is to be supplied within 30 days of a written request reaching a public authority, with a first appeal after that. Silence is itself a trigger |
| Where there is a named grievance officer, use them | Several systems have one, and a specific office is easier to write to than a counter. A calm, dated, factual letter moves more files than any argument at a window |
| And where it is a school or college | That situation has its own pattern and its own page. See what to do when a college refuses despite a gazette and when a school will not forward a correction |
How to Avoid the Commonest Name Change Problems in Jharkhand
List Every Record and the Exact Name Printed on It
Down to spacing and initials. This one sheet prevents more problems than everything else on this page put together, because it shows you which records actually disagree and which never did.
Decide Whether Yours Is a Correction or a Name Change
Ask whether there was ever a moment when you decided to be called something else. If not, you are in a correction, and most of the cost on this page does not apply to you.
Settle the Final Spelling Against the Oldest Document You Hold
Usually the birth certificate or the school register. Decide once, completely, before touching the Aadhaar, because the name there "can be updated twice in a lifetime" and a trial run spends half your allowance.
Correct the PAN, Never Apply for a Second One
The number stays and the name is amended. Obtaining multiple PAN is a listed default carrying a penalty of ten thousand rupees, and it is the most expensive avoidable mistake in this subject.
Find Out Which Paper Each Office Actually Names
Not the strongest paper, the named one. A gazette bought for a record that never asked for one is money gone, and several major records do not ask for one.
Buy Every Paper Inside One Short Window
Because "The documents must not be older than one year." A job done as one run costs one set of papers. The same job spread across fourteen months can cost two.
Keep the Whole Original Newspapers, Not Cuttings
Both the gazette file and the passport route ask for originals. Buy spare copies on the day it publishes, keep them flat, and do not hand over your only set without getting it back.
Update the Records in an Order That Does Not Backtrack
Aadhaar, PAN, banks, passport, licence and vehicle papers, employment and pension, then property and business. And check every nomination while you are there, because nobody ever does.
Take a Dated Acknowledgement and Ask in Writing If It Stalls
Every office, every time. A written request to a public authority is to be answered within 30 days in the normal course, and silence after that is itself the ground for an appeal.
The Full Central Gazette Process, and Where Files Actually Go Wrong
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes, because a published gazette is not edited and a mistake needs a fresh corrective process. Download the e-Gazette copy, then file the Aadhaar update, remembering that the name there can be updated twice in a lifetime, so this should be the one settled update and not a trial. Then correct the PAN rather than applying for a new one, then the bank, then the passport, then the licence and the vehicle papers, keeping the whole original newspapers throughout.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What Name Change Mistakes Actually Cost in Jharkhand
Here is the cost of each mistake set out honestly, including the ones where we can give you a published figure and the ones where we cannot.
| The mistake | What it costs |
|---|---|
| Obtaining a second PAN | A published figure, and the largest one here. The penalty provision reads "a sum of ten thousand rupees", and the Department lists "Obtaining multiple PAN" among the defaults. Correcting the existing card costs a small fraction of that |
| Spending both Aadhaar name updates | No fee, and the worst outcome on this page. The name "can be updated twice in a lifetime", and past that you are in an exception process that pushes you towards a gazette whether you needed one or not |
| A returned gazette file | The Government charge is paid only through BharatKosh, is revised each financial year and is non refundable. A return costs the whole charge again, plus the papers if they have aged out. Our cost page keeps the working figures |
| Republishing a newspaper notice | A real cost that varies by paper, edition and number of lines, so we print no figure. Keep the wording short, because you pay by the space, and keep the originals so you never pay twice |
| Buying a gazette a record never asked for | The whole charge, spent on a paper that particular office does not name. We sell that filing and we are still telling you to check first |
| Repeat visits from the wrong order | No fee, and for most households the biggest real cost. A day's wages and a fare, several times over |
| Our charge | Quoted on the call, after we have seen your papers, and never before we have told you whether any of this applies to you |
Myths That Cause Name Change Problems in Jharkhand
| What people believe | What is actually so |
|---|---|
| You can keep updating the Aadhaar until it is right | You cannot. The Authority's procedure states the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime", and beyond that "Update requests beyond allowed chances will only be considered through the exception handling process." |
| Get a fresh PAN in the new name, it is simpler | It is a listed default. The Department names "Obtaining multiple PAN", and the penalty provision reads "a sum of ten thousand rupees". The PAN is corrected, not replaced |
| The gazette fixes everything, so buy it first | Several major routes never name it. Item 10 of Form 2 for a driving licence lists an affidavit, a marriage certificate or a newspaper advertisement, and no gazette |
| There is no hurry, the papers stay valid | "The documents must not be older than one year." Nothing warns you, and the Government charge already paid is not returned when the file is refused |
| A newspaper cutting is enough | The gazette file asks for the "Original newspaper" and the passport route asks you to submit original newspapers. Keep the whole paper |
| If an office refuses, buy a stronger document | Usually the wrong move. A refusal is generally about a checklist, not about strength. Ask in writing which provision adds the requirement before spending anything |
| Every difference between documents needs the full route | Many need none of it. A mistyped letter where no name was ever changed is a correction against the office's own entry |
| A published gazette can be edited if there is a mistake | It cannot. A published notification is not amended in place, and a mistake needs a fresh corrective process with its own paperwork and cost |
| Nominations update themselves when the name changes | They do not. Nominee entries in bank, insurance and provident fund records are separate, and they surface at the worst possible moment |
| The delay is always somebody else's fault | In our experience it usually is not. An unsettled name, the wrong proforma, a hard copy that does not match the soft copy and papers that aged out are the four commonest causes, and all four sit on the applicant's own table |
Key Terms in Name Change Problems and Mistakes
| Term | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Correction against change | A name nobody ever changed but somebody typed wrongly is a correction. A name genuinely changed is a change. Using the wrong one is the commonest costly mistake |
| Prescribed limit | The Aadhaar rule that the name "can be updated twice in a lifetime". Every update spends one of the two |
| Exception handling process | What applies beyond that limit. The resident enrols at a centre with the document and intimates the Authority, and a Regional Office verifies it. Not an ordinary counter visit |
| Multiple PAN | Holding more than one. A listed default, with the penalty provision naming a sum of ten thousand rupees |
| Officially valid document | The Reserve Bank's term for what a bank may accept. The PAN is not one of them, which surprises people who have just corrected it |
| The one year rule | "The documents must not be older than one year." A deadline that runs against the applicant rather than the office |
| Non refundable | The Government charge through BharatKosh. A returned file does not return the money |
| Deficiency | Something missing or wrong in a file. The Controller "reserves the right to reject any request found incomplete/vague/unlawful/misleading" |
| Dated acknowledgement | A receipt with a date from the office you gave a request to. The foundation of everything you can do if it stalls |
| Nomination | The nominee entry in a bank account, policy or provident fund record. A separate field that no name change updates for you |
| Reissue | What a passport name change actually is. A new booklet with a new number, not an amendment, which matters if you hold visas |
| Proforma | The prescribed form the gazette notice is typed on. Choosing the change of name form for a typing error puts a change on record that never happened |
Help With Name Change Problems Across Jharkhand
Most of the people who call us are not starting. They are stuck, and usually one of the things on this page has already happened. What we do first is work out which. We read every record against the others, tell you whether this was ever a change of name at all, check whether an Aadhaar update has already been spent, check the dates on the papers you hold, and tell you what not to buy next. Where the answer is a written request to one office and nothing else, we will say so and charge you nothing. Where a second PAN already exists, we will tell you to deal with it deliberately rather than hope. We work across Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh and every other district, on scans over WhatsApp.
District pages are linked from the services page.
Send your papers and tell us what has gone wrong
Tell us in one line what has actually happened, because the fix depends on it entirely. An office has refused you. A gazette was filed and a record still will not change. You have already updated the Aadhaar once or twice. A second PAN exists. A file came back. Then send scans of every record that carries your name, with the dates readable on any affidavit or newspaper you already hold. Our first reply tells you whether this was ever a change of name at all, whether anything you own is close to expiring, whether an Aadhaar update has already been spent, and what not to buy next. If the answer is one written request and no published paper, we will tell you that and charge nothing. Details on the contact page.

People Also Ask About Name Change Problems, and Where the Popular Answers Are Wrong
Most of the "reasons your gazette file was rejected" lists online are not built from the Department's guidelines. They are built from each other. We went back to the published documents and checked the popular answers against them. Four of the commonest ones turn out to be wrong, and one of them describes a step that does not exist. Every answer below quotes the text it rests on.
Was my file rejected because I published in only one newspaper?
Not by the gazette rule. The guidelines say "Change of name should be advertised in one of the daily local leading newspapers." One. Several popular lists say you need two, and some go further and demand one English paper and one in the local language. Neither requirement appears in the gazette guidelines. Where two papers genuinely are named is the passport side, and that is a different office reading a different form. So before you spend twice, find out which office is refusing you. Our newspaper advertisement page sets out what each one asks for.
Was it rejected because my affidavit was not notarised?
The gazette list does not name an affidavit at all. It names "An undertaking duly signed by the applicant." That is not the same document, and notarisation is not what the list asks for. Plenty of counters in Jharkhand still want an affidavit for their own purposes, and it is cheap enough that we usually carry one. But do not assume a missing notary stamp is what sent your gazette file back, because the published list never asked for it. See affidavit against newspaper against gazette.
Was my upload rejected because the scan was unclear?
There is no upload. This is the clearest example of advice copied from one website to another without anybody checking. The guidelines say an application is entertained only if submitted personally or sent by post or courier. Nothing about the file itself is uploaded anywhere. What does go online is the fee, and only the fee. So if somebody has told you your scans were too poor, ask them which portal they mean, because the Department does not run one for this. Read how the file actually reaches Delhi.
Do my two witnesses need to give their own identity proof?
The guidelines for a name and gender notice say yes, in these words: "01-Self attested photocopy of ID Proof for Name and Address either Aadhaar card / Voter I card / Passport of each Witness." The same document asks for each witness's full name, signature, address and mobile number. The plain change of name list does not spell this out separately, so the two documents differ on the point. One photocopy per witness removes one reason to be sent back, so we carry it either way. The proforma format page shows where the witness block sits.
My file came back. Do I get the money back, and how long do I have?
You do not get it back, and you have six months to save it. The guidelines require the applicant to submit "his/her shortcoming in documents/deficit fees/CD/ CD certificate etc. within 06 (Six Months) from the time he received the first e-mail, phone or objection letter". If that window passes, "the case will be treated cancelled and whole new procedure with requisite fees is to be deposited". Read that twice, because it is the single most expensive sentence in this subject. A file you ignore for seven months costs you the whole fee again. Give them an email address you read and a mobile number somebody answers.
Will they send my original newspaper back so I can refile?
No. The guidelines say it flatly: "The documents once submitted in this department will not be returned in any circumstances." So if your file is objected to, you are making good the shortcoming with fresh papers, not with the ones already sitting in Delhi. This is why we tell every client to buy several copies of the newspaper on the day and to photocopy the whole file before sealing the envelope. The cost of a spare paper is a few rupees. The cost of republishing is not.
Can I still pay by NEFT or a direct bank transfer?
No, and the guidelines give the dates. Payment goes through the Non-Tax Receipt Portal, "i.e. www.bharatkosh.gov.in from 01/10/2018 onwards", and "The payment then directly through NEFT/RTGS have been stopped from 18/03/2019." If anybody hands you a bank account number for the Government charge, that is not how this is paid. Paying through BharatKosh shows the screens and the receipt to keep.
My PAN and Aadhaar will not link because the names differ. What is actually published?
The Income Tax Department's own answer is short: "Correct your details in either PAN or Aadhaar database such that both have matching details." If linking still fails, the published advice is that "you are advised to avail the option of biometric based authentication at dedicated centers of PAN Service Providers (Protean & UTIITSL)". And there is a money line worth knowing before you delay: the same source says "a fee of one thousand rupees will continue to apply to make the PAN operative by intimating the Aadhaar number". So a name mismatch you leave alone can turn into a fee, not just an inconvenience. See name change in PAN and name change in Aadhaar.
Was applying to a State gazette instead of the Central one my mistake?
We are not going to call a State gazette invalid, because that is not our call to make. What we can tell you is the practical position. Personal name notices in the Government of India's record are printed in Part IV, and that is the notification most offices across the country recognise without argument. The real question is never which gazette is better. It is which document the office refusing you has named on its own published list. We set out the comparison on the Jharkhand gazette against the Gazette of India.
Do the office hours matter if I am posting the file anyway?
More than people expect. The published counter hours are "10:00AM to 01:00 PM and 02:00PM to 4:00PM on all working days", and the second guideline set adds "(Closed on Saturday, Sunday and on Gazetted holidays)". A courier that arrives on a Saturday or during a run of holidays simply waits. If you are working to any kind of deadline, post early in a week and avoid a festival stretch, because nothing in the process makes up that lost time later. There is no published processing time to absorb it.
People Also Search For These Name Change Problems, and Where Each Is Solved
These are the searches people run when something has already gone wrong. Each line says what the problem really turns on once you read the published rule, and points at the page that deals with it in full.
| What people search | What the problem actually turns on | Read next |
|---|---|---|
| gazette name change rejected | Usually a checkable item in the published list, not a mystery. The six month window to make it good is the part nobody mentions | Rejection reasons |
| gazette name change refund | There is no refund clause. There is a window to fix the file, and missing it costs the whole fee again | The six month sentence |
| mistake printed in the gazette | A published notice is corrected by a further published notice, never by editing the old one | Gazette corrigendum |
| PAN Aadhaar name mismatch | Correct one database to match the other. If linking still fails, biometric authentication at a service provider centre is the published route | Name change in PAN |
| Aadhaar name change limit reached | The name can be updated twice in a lifetime, and beyond that it is an exception route rather than an ordinary counter visit | Name change in Aadhaar |
