IBPS Application Name Mismatch for Jharkhand Candidates: Gazette, Marriage Certificate or Affidavit
Bank exams run by IBPS, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, check your name more than once: at the exam centre, at the interview and again at document verification. If your name has changed, the rule we found is short and clear. A document instruction sheet published by Punjab National Bank for the IBPS Clerk recruitment (CRP-X) says: "In case of candidates who have changed their name will be allowed only if they produce original Gazette Notification or original marriage certificate or affidavit in original." So for IBPS, a Gazette notice is one of three accepted proofs, not the only one. A married woman with a marriage certificate, or a candidate with a proper affidavit, may not need a Gazette notice at all for this purpose. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this plainly because it means many readers will not need to buy one from us.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, IBPS accepts three proofs for a changed name. The instruction sheet we read says a candidate who changed their name "will be allowed only if they produce original Gazette Notification or original marriage certificate or affidavit in original." Second, the word is "or". Going by the wording, one of the three is enough; you do not need all three. Third, a married woman usually has the easiest route: her original marriage certificate. Fourth, for any other change, an original affidavit is named, and a Gazette notice is the strongest of the three if you also need it for Aadhaar, passport or a later job. Fifth, a spelling slip is not a change of name; keep the same spelling on your application and photo ID, and correct the odd document. Carry the original, not a photocopy, because the rule says "original" each time. One limit, stated openly: we could not open IBPS's own 2026 notification from here, so check it before you rely on this page.
IBPS Rule for Candidates Who Have Changed Their Name
The clearest wording we found is in Punjab National Bank's "General Instruction in respect of Submission of Documents in Recruitment Process IBPS-CLERK-CRP-X". It says it twice. First: "In case of candidates who have changed their name will be allowed only if they produce original Gazette Notification or original marriage certificate or affidavit in original." And again under other instructions: "In case of candidates who have changed their name, will have to produce original Gazette notification / their original marriage certificate / affidavit in original."
The same sentence, with the same three documents, is reported for the IBPS PO 2025 interview stage by a coaching website. We treat that as "as reported", because we could not open the IBPS notification itself from here.
| Proof named | What the wording says |
|---|---|
| Gazette Notification | "original Gazette Notification" |
| Marriage certificate | "original marriage certificate" |
| Affidavit | "affidavit in original" |
| How many you need | The three are joined by "or", so going by the wording, one is enough |
Gazette, Marriage Certificate or Affidavit: Which Proof Fits Your IBPS Case
The rule gives you a choice. Which one to carry depends on why your name changed and what else you will need the proof for later. This is our reading of how the three fit, not an IBPS instruction.
| Your situation | What usually fits |
|---|---|
| Surname changed after marriage | Original marriage certificate. See name change after marriage |
| Changed for another reason, IBPS only | Original affidavit is named. See name change affidavit |
| Changed, and you also need Aadhaar, passport or a later job | A Central Gazette notice is the one proof that most offices accept |
| Already have a Gazette notice | Carry the original printed e-Gazette copy |
| Only a spelling slip | Not a change of name. See the section on slips below |
IBPS Name Change After Marriage: Using the Marriage Certificate
For a married woman, the IBPS rule is kinder than many other exams. An "original marriage certificate" is named in the same sentence as the Gazette. So if your application, call letter or ID is in your married surname while your certificates are in your maiden name, the marriage certificate is the proof the rule names for you.
| Your situation | What usually helps |
|---|---|
| Marriage registered, certificate in hand | Carry the original certificate to every stage |
| Marriage not registered | Register it, or use an affidavit, which is also named |
| Your name is wrong on the certificate | Correct it first. See marriage certificate correction |
| You still use your maiden name everywhere | No change of name, no proof needed. Apply in the maiden name |
IBPS Name Spelling Mistake or Name Order Mismatch: Not a Change of Name
The IBPS rule speaks of "candidates who have changed their name". A misspelling in Aadhaar, a missing middle name, or a surname written first on one paper is not a change of name. Candidates ask about these cases often on forums. We found no IBPS rule written for them, so what follows is our practical advice.
| Situation | What usually helps |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar spelt differently from certificates | Correct Aadhaar before the exam if you can; carry an affidavit meanwhile. See spelling correction affidavit |
| Surname first on one paper, last on another | Same name, different order. See surname first in documents |
| Father's name differs on a caste certificate | Correct the certificate if time allows; carry an affidavit |
| Wrong spelling in your own application | Use the edit window if one is open; we could not confirm IBPS's current edit rules |
Gazette Notice for an IBPS Candidate From Jharkhand: Which Gazette to Use
If you decide a Gazette notice is the right proof for you, from Jharkhand today the practical answer is the Gazette of India, Part IV, published by the Department of Publication in Delhi. As reported in July 2025, the Jharkhand Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press.
| Your situation | What usually applies |
|---|---|
| No notice yet, and you want one | The Gazette of India, Part IV |
| An old Jharkhand Gazette notice | Keep it and carry it. See Jharkhand Gazette against Gazette of India |
| Exam or interview coming soon | A Central Gazette may not publish in time; the affidavit or marriage certificate is named too |
| You also apply to UPSC | UPSC names only a Gazette. See UPSC application name mismatch |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits an IBPS Candidate
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update your Aadhaar first, and let the PAN, bank account and other records follow. Carry a printed copy of the notice to every IBPS stage, since the rule asks for the original notification.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What an IBPS Name Change Proof Costs: Affidavit, Marriage Certificate or Gazette
For IBPS, the cost depends on which of the three proofs you use. An affidavit costs the least. A marriage certificate you may already hold. A Central Gazette notice costs the most, and for IBPS alone you may not need it.
| Item | What we can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|
| Affidavit | Stamp paper, Rs 100 as our safe default, plus the notary's fee |
| Marriage certificate | If already registered, no new cost. Registration fees are set by the registering office; we print no figure |
| Central Gazette notice | Paid only through BharatKosh. The Department's guidelines printed Rs 1,100 for an adult for 2016 to 2017; revised each financial year, never refunded |
| Newspaper advertisement, for a Gazette | Charged by the paper. We print no figure |
| A spelling slip | No Gazette needed; correct the source document, carry an affidavit |
| What we charge | Quoted on the call. If your marriage certificate or a slip covers it, we will say so and charge nothing |
