SSC One-Time Registration Name Mismatch in Jharkhand: Matriculation Name, OTR Edit and Verification
Staff Selection Commission exams start with your One-Time Registration, and the name you put there follows you to the document verification. SSC's instruction is plain: "Fill your name exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate." That is its 2024 Multi-Tasking Staff exam notice, and it adds: "Though you can edit/ modify your One-time Registration data, you must be very cautious while filling up details." In October 2025, as reported, SSC announced that an "edit OTR facility will be available from 08.10.2025 onwards". And if your name changed after Class 10, the same notice lists the papers for verification: for a married woman, the marriage certificate or other proof it names; for anyone else, "Deed Poll/ Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner and paper cuttings of two leading daily newspaper in original... and Gazette Notification." This page puts it in order for a Jharkhand candidate.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, match your Class 10 certificate. SSC's instruction is "Fill your name exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate." Second, if your OTR is wrong, use the edit facility when SSC opens it, and be careful: SSC warns "YOUR CANDIDATURE MAY GET CANCELLED IN CASE OF INCORRECT/ WRONG INFORMATION." As reported, an edit facility opened from 8 October 2025, covering name, date of birth and other details. Third, if your name changed after Class 10, say so in the form: the notice says "In case, you have made any changes in your name after matriculation, indicate the same". Fourth, bring the right papers to verification. In SSC's 2024 MTS notice, a married woman may show a marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage, a husband's passport showing both names, or a joint affidavit with photograph; anybody else shows a deed poll or affidavit, two newspaper cuttings and a Gazette Notification. Fifth, watch the date of birth too: the notice says "Mismatch of date of birth will be a ground for rejection of candidature." Each SSC exam notice sets its own rules, so read the one for your exam.
Your SSC OTR Name Must Match Your Class 10 Certificate
SSC's 2024 MTS notice says in its instructions: "Fill your name exactly as given in Matriculation (10th Class) Certificate." Not as on Aadhaar, not as on your degree, but as on Class 10. For a Jharkhand candidate that is usually the JAC or, for older candidates, the Bihar Board certificate.
| Your situation | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar and Class 10 names differ in spelling | The Class 10 spelling, as SSC instructs. Fix Aadhaar separately |
| Class 10 has initials, Aadhaar has the full name | As on Class 10. See short name against full name |
| Your name changed after Class 10 | Class 10 name, and indicate the change where the form asks |
| Your Class 10 certificate itself is wrong | That needs the board. See JAC certificate correction or Bihar Board correction |
| You are unsure | Read the current exam notice; each sets its own instructions |
How to Edit a Wrong Name in Your SSC One-Time Registration
SSC's 2024 notice says "Though you can edit/ modify your One-time Registration data, you must be very cautious while filling up details." As Careers360 reported, SSC announced in October 2025: "Candidates are hereby informed that edit OTR facility will be available from 08.10.2025 onwards. Candidates who wish to modify/ correct their details are advised to utilise the said facility from the prescribed date." The report lists name, date of birth, gender, category and other details as editable.
| The point | What we can tell you |
|---|---|
| Can OTR be edited? | Yes, SSC's notice says you can edit or modify it |
| When | When SSC opens an edit facility, as it did from 8 October 2025, as reported |
| Which details | Name, date of birth and others, as reported |
| The warning | "YOUR CANDIDATURE MAY GET CANCELLED IN CASE OF INCORRECT/ WRONG INFORMATION." |
| How many times | Not stated in what we read |
Papers SSC Asks for When Your Name Changed After Class 10
SSC's 2024 MTS notice tells candidates: "In case, you have made any changes in your name after matriculation, indicate the same". At document verification, its paragraph 16.6.8.4 lists, for a change other than by marriage: "Deed Poll/ Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner and paper cuttings of two leading daily newspaper in original (One daily newspaper should be of the area of applicant's permanent and present address or nearby area) and Gazette Notification."
| Paper | In SSC's words |
|---|---|
| Deed poll or affidavit | "Deed Poll/ Affidavit duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner" |
| Two newspapers | "paper cuttings of two leading daily newspaper in original" |
| One of them local | "One daily newspaper should be of the area of applicant's permanent and present address or nearby area" |
| Gazette | "Gazette Notification" |
SSC Name Change Papers for Women After Marriage
For a woman whose name changed at marriage, SSC's 2024 notice, paragraph 16.6.8.1, asks for less. "Photocopy of Husband's passport showing names of spouses or an attested copy of marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage or an Affidavit from husband and wife along with a joint photograph duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner".
| Any one of | In SSC's words |
|---|---|
| Husband's passport | "Photocopy of Husband's passport showing names of spouses" |
| Marriage certificate | "attested copy of marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Marriage" |
| Joint affidavit | "Affidavit from husband and wife along with a joint photograph duly sworn before the Oath Commissioner" |
SSC Date of Birth Mismatch: Why It Is Stricter Than a Name
A name can be explained with papers. A date of birth usually cannot. SSC's 2024 notice says: "Mismatch of date of birth will be a ground for rejection of candidature." So check the date of birth in your OTR against your Class 10 certificate as carefully as the name.
| Point | Name | Date of birth |
|---|---|---|
| Anchor | Class 10 certificate | Class 10 certificate |
| Can a change be shown with papers? | Yes, the notice lists them | The notice calls a mismatch "a ground for rejection" |
| What to do | Enter Class 10 name; show proof of any change | Make sure the OTR matches Class 10 exactly |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits an SSC Candidate
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes, download the e-Gazette copy, and then update the Aadhaar first, because the system leverages it for unique identification, and let the PAN, the bank account and any investment records follow after it in that order. Carry the notice to SSC document verification with the affidavit and two newspaper cuttings, as SSC's 2024 notice lists.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What Fixing an SSC Name Mismatch Costs
An OTR edit and a Class 10 match should cost little. The real cost comes only for a genuine change of name, where SSC's list asks for an affidavit, two newspapers and a Gazette notification.

|---|---|
| Editing your OTR | No fee mentioned in what we read |
| Aadhaar update to match Class 10 | Charged by UIDAI. See Aadhaar name change |

| Two newspaper notices | Charged by each paper. We print no figure |
| Central Gazette notice, for a genuine change | Paid only through BharatKosh, revised each financial year, never refunded |
| Marriage certificate, for a married woman | From the marriage registration office, if not already held |
