Admit Card or Hall Ticket Name Mismatch in Jharkhand: What to Do
An admit card, also called a hall ticket or pravesh patra, lets you into the exam hall. It prints your name from the form you filled, or for a JAC board exam, from the data your school uploaded. Trouble starts when that name does not match your Aadhaar or your matric certificate, a few days before the exam. Most of these cases are a spelling slip, and most can be handled with the right papers in your hand. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first: a spelling slip on an admit card needs no Gazette notice.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, check the admit card the day it comes out, letter by letter, against your ID and matric certificate. Second, if the exam body has a correction window or an email for errors, use it at once and keep the reply. Third, on exam day, carry an original photo ID and, for a slip, your matric certificate and a short affidavit. This is our advice. Fourth, for a JAC board exam, the school fixes the data, and JAC said 2026 corrections had to happen before admit cards came out, as reported. Fifth, a spelling slip does not need a Gazette. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this plainly.
Where the Name on Your Admit Card Comes From
An admit card does not invent your name. It copies it from somewhere. Find that place, and you know who can fix it. We read reports on JAC's 2026 admit cards and data correction, a report on a 2026 JSSC exam's admit card, and a coaching guide on national exam admit cards. The handling advice further down is ours. Each exam body sets its own rules, so read the instructions printed on your own admit card first.
| Exam | What the sources show |
|---|---|
| JAC Class 10 and 12 | The name comes from the registration data the school uploaded. For 2026, students marked errors on their information sheet and the principal corrected them on the portal, from 28 December 2025 to 2 January 2026, as reported |
| JAC's own warning | Correction had to happen before the admit card was released, and it was called the final opportunity, as reported |
| JAC admit card release | Released on 19 January 2026 at jacexamportal.in, downloaded with the school's ID and password; exams from 3 February 2026, as reported |
| What a JAC admit card shows | Name, roll number, photo, guardian's name, subjects, exam centre and exam day rules, as reported |
| JSSC recruitment exams | The name comes from your own online form. For one 2026 exam, entry needed the printed admit card and an original photo ID: Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Passport or Driving Licence, as reported |
| National exams such as JEE Main | Write to the exam body with your application number. A minor spelling difference with an otherwise matching ID may still be allowed, but a major one can cause trouble, as reported by a coaching guide |
| JPSC, JCECEB and others | Each sets its own rule. Read the admit card instructions and the exam notice |
So there are two kinds of admit card. A board exam admit card comes from school data, and only the school and JAC can touch it. A recruitment or entrance admit card comes from your own form, and the form is what you fix. This is our reading.
Which Admit Card Name Mismatch Case You Have
Name problems on an admit card fall into a few kinds. This sorting is ours, based on the papers students send us.
| What does not match | What it usually is |
|---|---|
| Admit card differs from Aadhaar by a letter | A typing slip in your online form |
| JAC admit card spells you wrongly | The school uploaded a wrong spelling at registration |
| Father's or mother's name wrong | A slip in the form or in school data |
| Admit card right, Aadhaar wrong | The ID itself carries an old slip |
| Married name on ID, maiden name on admit card | You filled the form in your matric name |
| Surname missing or extra | One paper drops a surname another carries |
| A completely different name | A genuine change of name, or the wrong record |
How to Handle an Admit Card Name Mismatch Before the Exam
An admit card is corrected by the body that issued it, from its own records. You cannot fix it yourself. The table below is our practical advice.
| Situation | What we usually advise |
|---|---|
| Form slip, correction window still open | Use the window. Then download the admit card again |
| Form slip, window closed | Write to the exam body with your application number, the wrong and right spelling, and an ID copy. Keep the acknowledgement |
| JAC admit card wrong | Tell the principal the same day, in writing. Only the school can take it to JAC |
| Parent's name wrong | Same route as your own name. For JAC, see mother's name correction in JAC marksheet |
| Aadhaar is the wrong one | Carry another original ID that matches. Fix Aadhaar after the exam. See Aadhaar name change |
| Married name on ID | Carry the marriage certificate and an affidavit. See affidavit after marriage |
| Genuine change of name | A Gazette notice, then each paper. Not something to start a week before an exam |
For exam day, carry a small file: the admit card, an original photo ID, your matric certificate, a one-and-the-same affidavit for the slip, and the email or letter you sent to the exam body. Whether the centre lets you in is the exam body's decision, not ours. This is our advice.
For a JAC student, a wrong spelling that slips through to the exam will usually reach the marksheet and certificate too. Correction then goes through the school and JAC. See our JAC certificate name correction page, and what to do if the school refuses to forward it.
Result, Marksheet and Verification After an Admit Card Name Mismatch
The name on the admit card usually travels on to your result, scorecard and the papers checked later. This list is our advice.
| Record | What to watch |
|---|---|
| JAC marksheet | See JAC Class 10 and 12 marksheet name change |
| Entrance result or rank card | See NEET and JEE application name mismatch |
| Jharkhand entrance counselling | See JCECEB application form correction |
| Document verification | See name mismatch at document verification |
| JSSC verification | See JSSC CGL verification |
| Teacher eligibility | See JTET application name mismatch |
| PAN and Aadhaar | See PAN and Aadhaar |
Does an Admit Card Name Mismatch Need a Gazette Notice?
No, for a spelling slip, a parent's name slip or a name after marriage. Those are handled by the exam body, the school and JAC, the ID office, or a marriage certificate and affidavit. A Gazette notice is for a genuine change of name, and even then each paper needs its own update.
| Situation | What usually applies |
|---|---|
| Form typing slip | Exam body correction. No Gazette |
| JAC admit card slip | School and JAC. No Gazette |
| Aadhaar slip | Aadhaar update. No Gazette |
| Name after marriage | Marriage certificate. No Gazette |
| Genuine change of name | A Central Gazette notice, then each paper |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits an Admit Card
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update Aadhaar and PAN, and then your bank account and residence papers, with the original Gazette notification.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What Fixing an Admit Card Name Costs
The costs are small, and often nil: most of this is writing a letter and carrying the right papers. Not a Gazette notice, for a slip. We could not verify a correction fee for any one exam, so we print no amount.
| Item | What we can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|
| Exam form correction window | Some bodies charge, some do not. Read that exam's notice |
| Writing to the exam body | No fee that we know of |
| JAC data correction through school | The report we read named no fee. Ask the school |
| Affidavit | Stamp paper, Rs 100 as our safe default, plus the notary's fee |
| Aadhaar name update | As UIDAI charges at the centre |
| Gazette notice | Not needed for a spelling slip. Paid on BharatKosh, revised each year and non-refundable, if ever needed |
| What we charge | Quoted on the call. For telling you which paper to fix, nothing |
