JPSC Civil Services Interview and Document Verification Name Mismatch in Jharkhand
The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) runs the State's Combined Civil Services Examination. The 2025 round, under Advertisement No. 01/2026, held its prelims on 19 April 2026 and its mains on 18 to 20 July 2026, as reported. Next come document verification and the interview. JPSC's own past interview lists show how closely it reads your papers. It asked for caste certificates in set formats, "issued in the name and address of father", and asked one candidate for an "Affidavit for difference in father's surname in caste certificate". We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first: a spelling slip in these papers needs no Gazette notice.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, take your matric certificate as the base; JPSC forms take date of birth from it. Second, check your caste certificate is in the right form and in your father's name and address, as JPSC has asked. Third, correct any paper that spells you or your father differently. Fourth, where a surname differs, prepare an affidavit, as JPSC has asked before. This is our advice. Fifth, a spelling slip here does not need a Gazette. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this plainly.
What JPSC Checks at Document Verification and Interview
We read JPSC's own list of candidates called for document verification and interview from an earlier round, dated 27 January 2022. Its instructions are JPSC's own words. The 2025 round's dates come from exam news, as reported. The 2025 round's interview notice may add or change rules, so read it when it comes.
| Point | What the sources show |
|---|---|
| What to bring | Aadhaar for identity, "All the related original documents", two photographs, and two self-attested photocopies of documents asked |
| ST and SC caste certificate | Form IV, as in the Jharkhand Government circular no. 1754 of 25 February 2019 |
| BC-I and BC-II certificate | Form XI, the non-creamy layer certificate |
| Who issues it | The Circle Officer or a higher authority |
| Whose name | "issued in the name and address of father" |
| A surname gap | One candidate was asked for an "Affidavit for difference in father's surname in caste certificate" |
| The 2025 round | Prelims 19 April 2026, result 2 July 2026, mains 18 to 20 July 2026, as reported |
So JPSC reads your caste certificate against your father's name, and it has accepted an affidavit for a surname gap before. If your father's surname differs between papers, prepare that affidavit early. This is our reading.
Which JPSC Civil Services Name Mismatch Case You Have
JPSC name problems fall into a few kinds. This sorting is ours, based on the papers candidates send us.
| What does not match | What it usually is |
|---|---|
| Father's surname differs on the caste certificate | Written with or without a caste name, or spelled differently |
| Caste certificate in the wrong form | An older or general format, not Form IV or Form XI |
| Caste certificate in the candidate's own name | Not in the father's name and address, as JPSC asked |
| Degree differs from matric | A slip at the university |
| Local resident certificate differs | Typed at the circle office or on JharSewa |
| Name after marriage | Matric in the earlier name, later papers in the new |
| Genuine change of name | A deliberate new name, after matric |
How to Fix a JPSC Civil Services Name Mismatch Before the Interview
Each paper is corrected by the body that issued it. JPSC checks your papers; it does not correct them. The table below is our practical advice.
| Situation | What we usually advise |
|---|---|
| Father's surname differs | An affidavit for the difference, as JPSC has asked. See father's name mismatch |
| Caste certificate in the wrong form or name | Reissue it in the right form, in the father's name and address. See caste certificate correction |
| BC non-creamy layer certificate | See OBC certificate name change |
| Degree differs | See university degree correction |
| Local resident certificate differs | See residence certificate correction |
| Name after marriage | Marriage certificate and affidavit. See affidavit after marriage |
| Genuine change of name | A Gazette notice, then each paper |
The caste certificate is the paper JPSC has been most exact about. Check three things: the form (Form IV for ST and SC, Form XI for BC-I and BC-II), the issuing officer (Circle Officer or higher), and whose name and address it carries (your father's). If any is off, reissue it now. This is our advice, based on JPSC's 2022 list.
Where your father's surname appears one way on the caste certificate and another on your matric, swear a one-and-the-same affidavit naming both forms. JPSC has asked for exactly this kind of affidavit before. Bring the original and copies. This is our advice.
Joining, Training and Service Records After JPSC Selection
After selection, your name goes on to service, training and payment records. This list is our advice.
| Record | What to watch |
|---|---|
| Police verification | See police verification and character certificate |
| Service book | Ask that it is opened in the matric spelling |
| Salary account | See bank records |
| PAN and Aadhaar | See PAN and Aadhaar |
| Pension records | See pension records |
| JSSC exams | See JSSC CGL verification |
Does a JPSC Civil Services Name Mismatch Need a Gazette Notice?
No, for a spelling slip, a Hindi spelling or a name after marriage. Those are fixed at the office that issued each paper, or tied with a marriage certificate and affidavit. A Gazette notice is for a genuine change of name, and even then each paper needs its own update.
| Situation | What usually applies |
|---|---|
| Degree slip | University correction. No Gazette |
| Father's surname gap | An affidavit, as JPSC has asked. No Gazette |
| Aadhaar slip | Aadhaar update. No Gazette |
| Name after marriage | Marriage certificate. No Gazette |
| Genuine change of name | A Central Gazette notice, then each paper |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a JPSC Candidate
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update Aadhaar and PAN, and then your bank account and residence papers, with the original Gazette notification.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What a JPSC Name Correction Costs in Jharkhand
The costs vary by paper: a caste certificate reissue, a university correction, perhaps an affidavit. Not a Gazette notice, for a slip. JPSC charges nothing we know of for verification itself.
| Item | What we can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|
| Caste certificate reissue | As JharSewa or the circle office charges |
| Degree correction | As the university charges |
| Matric correction | As JAC charges. See our JAC pages |
| Affidavit for a surname gap | Stamp paper, Rs 100 as our safe default, plus the notary's fee |
| Aadhaar name update | As UIDAI charges. See our Aadhaar pages |
| Gazette notice | Only if you choose it for a genuine new name. Paid on BharatKosh, revised each year and non-refundable |
| What we charge | Quoted on the call. For telling you which paper to fix, nothing |
