JTET Application Name Mismatch in Jharkhand: Correction Window, Certificate and What to Do Now
The Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC). For 2026, JAC's correction window for errors in the application form ran from 20 to 31 August 2026, as reported, and the fields reported as correctable included "name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth". That window has now closed. If your name in the JTET application does not match your Class 10 certificate, what matters next is whether it is a spelling slip or a genuine change of name, because a teacher recruitment panel will compare your JTET certificate with the rest of your papers. A spelling slip needs no Gazette notice. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, JTET 2026 is conducted by JAC, and its application correction window ran 20 to 31 August 2026, as reported. Second, the fields reported as correctable included your name, your father's name and your mother's name. Third, if you missed the window, write to JAC with your application number before the certificate is issued, and keep a copy; we could not confirm any later window. Fourth, a spelling slip is not a change of name: carry an affidavit linking the two spellings, and keep your other records on your Class 10 spelling. Fifth, only a genuine change of name may call for a Central Gazette notice. We publish Gazette notices, and we say plainly when you do not need one.
JTET 2026 Application Correction Window: Dates and Fields, as Reported
JTET 2026 is conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council. We could not open JAC's own JTET pages from here, so the dates below are as reported by education news sites. They reported the notification on 28 March 2026, applications from 21 April 2026, and a correction window of 20 to 31 August 2026.
| Item | As reported |
|---|---|
| Conducting body | Jharkhand Academic Council |
| Application closing date | Reports differ: 2 June and 20 June 2026 both appear |
| Correction window | 20 to 31 August 2026 |
| Fields reported as correctable | "name, father's name, mother's name, date of birth, address, subject" |
| Major errors | One report says candidates could "cancel the previous form and fill out a new one", with a fee |
Missed the JTET Correction Window? What to Do Now
We could not confirm any later correction window for JTET 2026. What follows is our practical advice, not a JAC rule. The aim is to put your correct name on record with JAC before the certificate is printed, and to be ready for the recruitment panel either way.
| Step | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Write to JAC with your application number | Puts the correct spelling on record, with a copy of your Class 10 certificate |
| Keep the dated receipt of your letter | Shows you raised it before the certificate issued |
| Watch JAC notices | For any further correction or certificate correction process |
| Prepare a linking affidavit | For a spelling slip, to show both spellings are yours. See spelling correction affidavit |
Why the Name on Your JTET Certificate Matters at Teacher Recruitment
A JTET certificate is an eligibility document you will show at a teacher recruitment. Recruitment panels in Jharkhand test consistency: they compare your name, and your parents' names, across every paper in your file. A JTET certificate spelt differently from your Class 10 certificate is one more thing to explain.
| Where it shows | What usually helps |
|---|---|
| JTET certificate against Class 10 | A linking affidavit, and your letter to JAC |
| Father's or mother's name differs | Same approach; the panel checks parents' names too |
| Degree or B.Ed spelt differently too | See university degree correction |
| Verification date already fixed | See name correction before verification |
JTET Name Spelling Slip or Genuine Change of Name: Which Is Yours
Most JTET mismatches we see are typing slips: a letter wrong, initials instead of a full name, or a surname spelt the way it sounds. A slip is not a change of name. A genuine change is when you now use a different name from the one on your Class 10 certificate.
| Situation | What usually applies |
|---|---|
| Typing slip in the JTET form | Letter to JAC, and a linking affidavit. No Gazette |
| Initials instead of full name | Same. No Gazette |
| Your Class 10 certificate itself is wrong | Correct it with JAC through the school. See JAC certificate correction |
| You now use a different name entirely | A change of name; a Central Gazette notice is the strongest proof |
JTET Application Name After Marriage: Maiden or Married Surname
Many women applying for JTET hold certificates in their maiden name and an Aadhaar in their married name. We could not find a JTET rule on which to use. Our practical advice is to keep the name that matches your educational certificates, since those are what panels compare.
| Your situation | What usually helps |
|---|---|
| Applied in the maiden name | Matches your certificates. Carry your marriage certificate for the Aadhaar difference |
| Applied in the married name | Carry the marriage certificate to link it to your certificates |
| No registered marriage | An affidavit linking both names |
| Father's name versus husband's name | State certificates usually name your father; keep the father's name where the form asks for it |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a JTET Candidate
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What Fixing a JTET Name Mismatch Costs
For a typing slip, the cost is a letter and an affidavit. A Gazette cost comes in only for a genuine change of name.
| Item | What we can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|
| JTET correction, in the window | One report mentions a fee for cancelling and refilling. We could not confirm the figure |
| Letter to JAC | Postage or a visit. No fee we know of |
| Linking affidavit | Stamp paper, Rs 100 as our safe default, plus the notary's fee |
| Central Gazette notice, only for a genuine change | Paid only through BharatKosh. The Department's guidelines printed Rs 1,100 for an adult for 2016 to 2017; revised each financial year, never refunded |
| A typing slip | No Gazette cost |
| What we charge | Quoted on the call. For a slip, we will say you need no notice and charge nothing |
