Online Lagan Rasid Name Mismatch in Jharkhand: Why the Receipt Shows the Wrong Name and How to Fix It
In Jharkhand, land rent, called lagan, is paid online on the State's Jharbhu Lagan portal, and the portal gives you a receipt, the lagan rasid. When the name on that rasid does not match your Aadhaar, the fault is almost never in the payment. In our experience, the rasid repeats the raiyat's name that already stands in the land record, so the real fix is in the jamabandi, which is Register II. Since April 2022, the State has run a portal called Parishodhan where a raiyat can report a wrong name, khata, plot, area or lagan entry online, as reported. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first: a lagan rasid spelling slip needs no Gazette notice.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, compare the rasid with the land record. If the jamabandi or online khata shows the same wrong name, the rasid only copied it. Second, if only the spelling is wrong on an entry that is already yours, report it on Parishodhan or apply at the Circle Office, with your identity papers. Third, after the record is corrected, pay the next lagan and check that the new rasid carries the right name. Fourth, if the land is still in a late parent's name, that is succession and mutation, not a name correction. Fifth, a spelling slip here does not need a Gazette. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this plainly.
How Online Lagan Payment Works in Jharkhand and Where the Rasid Name Comes From
Lagan is the yearly rent a raiyat pays the State for a land holding. The rasid is the proof that it was paid. The points below come from Government sources and from guides that walk through the portal. Where a point is our own reading, we say so.
| Point | What the source shows |
|---|---|
| Where lagan is paid | On Jharbhu Lagan, jharbhulagan.jharkhand.gov.in. The National Portal of India lists it as a Jharkhand land records service "to facilitate easy and hassle free collection of Land revenue Rents" |
| How you find your holding | By district, anchal, halka and mauza, then khata number, plot number or raiyat name, as reported by guides to the portal |
| What you see before paying | The raiyat's name and the lagan due for that holding, as reported |
| The rasid | Generated after payment, to download and print, as reported |
| Where the rasid name comes from | The jamabandi, the Register II entry for the holding. This is our reading from the receipts we see |
Which Lagan Rasid Name Mismatch You Have
Rasid name problems fall into a few kinds, and each one has a different fix. This sorting is ours, based on the papers people send us.
| What does not match | What it usually is |
|---|---|
| Your spelling differs from Aadhaar | A slip in the jamabandi, such as Tirkey written as Tirki |
| Online khata differs from the paper register | A data entry error when records went online |
| Rasid shows your late father or grandfather | Land never mutated after a death. Not a name error |
| Father's name wrong, your own name right | A slip in the parent's name on the entry |
| Your holding does not show on the portal at all | A missing jamabandi entry, which Parishodhan also takes, as reported |
| Hindi and English spellings differ | Two ways of writing one name, such as Prasad and Prashad |
| Genuine change of name | A deliberate new name, after the land was recorded |
How to Fix a Lagan Rasid Name Mismatch Through Parishodhan or the Circle Office
The rasid is fixed by fixing the land record. There are two doors for that: the Parishodhan portal online, and an application at the Circle Office. Parishodhan was launched on 15 April 2022 by the Department of Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms, as reported. The State's public relations department listed what it takes: correction of the raiyat's name and address, of the khata, plot and area, and of lagan errors. The table below is our practical advice.
| Situation | What we usually advise |
|---|---|
| Your spelling is wrong in the jamabandi | Report it on Parishodhan, or apply to the Circle Officer, with your Aadhaar, Class 10 certificate and deed. See jamabandi correction |
| Online khata differs from the paper register | Report it on Parishodhan; the Circle Office checks it against the Government records, as reported |
| Land still in a late parent's name | Succession and mutation first. See dakhil kharij and legal heir certificate |
| Father's name wrong on the entry | Correct it with care, as it traces succession. See father name correction |
| Tribal surname written two ways | Correction against your own papers. See Tirkey and Tirki spellings |
| Hindi and English spellings differ | Often a one-and-the-same affidavit is enough. See Hindi to English spelling |
| Earlier name before marriage | Marriage certificate and an affidavit. See name change after marriage |
| Genuine change of name | A Gazette notice, then Aadhaar, then the land record |
Where a Lagan Rasid Is Used: LPC, Mutation, Loans and Farmer Schemes
A rasid in the wrong name causes trouble wherever someone checks it against your Aadhaar. These are the places we see it asked for most. This list is from our experience, not from one Government order.
| Where it is asked for | What to know |
|---|---|
| Land Possession Certificate | The LPC also follows the land record. See LPC name mismatch |
| Mutation after a sale or a death | The Circle Office reads the same holding. See dakhil kharij |
| A home loan against land | The bank decides what it wants. Ask in writing which record it needs. See home loan name mismatch |
| Kisan Credit Card and crop insurance | Land details are checked against the holder. See Kisan Credit Card |
| PM Kisan and the farmer registry | Usually read from the land record itself. See PM Kisan and farmer registry |
| Selling or registering land | Keep the deed, the land record and the rasid in one name. See property documents |
Does a Lagan Rasid Name Mismatch Need a Gazette Notice?
No, for a spelling slip, a data entry error or an old entry in a parent's name. Those are fixed in the land record, through Parishodhan or the Circle Office. A Gazette notice is for a genuine change of name, and even then it does not change the land record by itself.
| Situation | What usually applies |
|---|---|
| Spelling slip in the jamabandi | Parishodhan or the Circle Office. No Gazette |
| Online entry differs from paper register | Checked against the Government records. No Gazette |
| Land in a late parent's name | Succession and mutation. No Gazette |
| Hindi and English spellings | Usually an affidavit. No Gazette |
| Genuine change of name | A Central Gazette notice, then Aadhaar, then the land record |

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a Lagan Receipt
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update Aadhaar and PAN, and carry the original Gazette notification to the Circle Office with your application.
The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each
| The paper | What is checked in it, clause by clause |
|---|---|
| 1. The proforma, in duplicate | That it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number |
| 2. The affidavit or undertaking | The same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default |
| 3. The original newspaper | The original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year |
| 4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paper | Two self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error |
| 5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receipt | MS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt |
The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.
What Correcting a Lagan Rasid Name Mismatch Costs
The costs are small: the lagan itself, copies of the land record, perhaps an affidavit. Not a Gazette notice, for a slip.
| Item | What we can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|
| Lagan itself | The amount due for your holding, shown on Jharbhu Lagan before you pay. It differs by holding, so we print no figure |
| Parishodhan complaint | We found no Government page giving a fee. We print none |
| Correction at the Circle Office | No verified fee. Ask at your Circle Office |
| Affidavit | Stamp paper, Rs 100 as our safe default, plus the notary's fee |
| Succession and mutation | A separate matter, often with an advocate. We print no figure |
| Aadhaar correction | The current UIDAI charge |
| Gazette notice | Only if you choose it for a genuine new name. Paid on BharatKosh, revised each year and non-refundable |
| What we charge | Quoted on the call. For telling you which record to fix, nothing |
