Name Change in PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry in Jharkhand

Start with the sentence that governs everything here. The scheme's operational guidelines say that "The benefit shall be paid to only those farmers' families whose names are entered into the land records." Not to a person who farms. To a name that is already written in a land record. And the unit is not you, it is the household: the guidelines define a landholder farmer's family as "a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records." That is why a stopped instalment so often turns out to be a land record question or a family question rather than a spelling question. Before you correct anything, read the recovery clause on this page. This is the only record we write about where a declaration made carelessly, to get an instalment moving, can turn a paperwork problem into a demand for the money back.

1Family, not one person, is the unit the guidelines use
2Names that must agree, the land record and the Aadhaar
2Weeks, the grievance disposal the guidelines prefer
0Gazette notices this scheme by itself ever needs
Quick answer

Find out first whether your problem is actually a name at all, because very often it is not. An instalment can stop for reasons that have nothing to do with a spelling: the household may fall in one of the excluded categories, the land record may not carry the name, the Aadhaar may not be seeded, or the bank details may be wrong. The guidelines are clear that payment runs "only on the basis of Aadhaar seeded data base" for instalments from the December 2019 to March 2020 trimester onwards, and that "Responsibility of identifying the land holder farmer family eligible for benefit under the scheme shall be of the State / UT Government." They also say that "Correctness of beneficiary details is to be ensured by State / UT Governments", with speedy reconciliation where bank details are wrong or incomplete. So the work is at the State level, through a named forum, and not by editing a national portal yourself. The guidelines set up State and District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees and say grievances "should be disposed off on merit preferably within two weeks time", and they tell States to have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation". Now the warning, and it is the most important paragraph on this page. The guidelines also state that "In case of incorrect self declaration, beneficiary shall be liable for recovery of transferred financial benefit and other penal actions as per law." Everywhere else on this website our advice is to correct things quickly. Here it is to correct them truthfully, and never to sign something untrue in order to restart a payment.

PM-Kisan Pays a Family Whose Name Is Already in the Land Record

Name change in PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry in Jharkhand
The money follows a name in a land record, and the unit it follows is a household.

Almost every confused conversation about this scheme is cleared up by two definitions from the guidelines themselves. Read them slowly, because they decide who can be paid and who cannot.

What the PM-Kisan operational guidelines define and what each definition means for a name
What the guidelines sayWhat it means in practice
A landholder farmer's family is "a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records"The unit is a household, not a person. A father and a grown son with separate names may still be one family for this purpose, or two, depending entirely on what the land records show
"The benefit shall be paid to only those farmers' families whose names are entered into the land records."This is the whole scheme in one line. The money follows a name written in a land record. If that name is not there, or is there in a form that cannot be matched, no amount of portal work will produce a payment
Payment of instalments from the December 2019 to March 2020 trimester onwards is done "only on the basis of Aadhaar seeded data base"So there are two names to satisfy: the one in the land record and the one on the Aadhaar. They were written years apart by different people, and in Jharkhand they very often disagree
States are told to have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation"The guidelines expressly contemplate a name being revised. That is worth knowing when somebody tells a farmer that nothing can ever be changed. It can, through the State, on a proper footing
States and Union Territories "can upload names of eligible beneficiaries who have been identified subsequently"So the list is not closed. Being left out this year is not a permanent exclusion, provided the household is genuinely eligible and the records are put right
What this changes about your questionStop asking how to change the name in PM-Kisan. Ask whether the name is in the land record, and whether the Aadhaar matches it. Those two questions cover nearly every case we see
The Jharkhand shape of this problem. A khatiyan entry written two or three generations ago carries a spelling recorded by ear, sometimes in a different script, sometimes with a surname the family now spells another way. The Aadhaar carries today's spelling. Neither is a mistake and they do not match. Where the land record itself has to be corrected, that is a revenue process and a serious one: our jamabandi and khatiyan name correction page explains what is involved and why an advocate is usually worth the money.
A different scheme, a different rule, and we keep them apart. Crop insurance and a Kisan Credit Card read a land paper too, but they work quite differently and have their own deadlines. Our Fasal Bima and Kisan Credit Card page covers those, including the season cut-off dates. Do not assume that what is true for one farm scheme is true for another. On this website they each get their own page for exactly that reason.

Why a Stopped PM-Kisan Instalment Is Often Not a Name Problem at All

We meet a great many households who have spent months chasing a spelling, and who were never eligible in the first place. That is a painful conversation, so we would rather you had it here, free, before anybody takes your money to fix a name.

Reasons a PM-Kisan payment stops that have nothing to do with a name spelling
The reasonWhat to check, and what it means
The household falls in an excluded categoryThe guidelines exclude several kinds of household outright. Among them are former and present holders of constitutional posts, "All Persons who paid Income Tax in last assessment year", certain Government officers, employees and pensioners by income, and "Professionals like Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects" who are registered and practising
A non-resident householdThe guidelines state that "Non-resident Indians (NRIs) in terms of the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 shall be excluded from any benefit." That is a tax law test, not a passport test, and it catches families who did not think of themselves that way
The name is not entered in the land recordBecause the benefit goes only to families "whose names are entered into the land records". A man who farms his father's land, with the record still in the father's name, has a land record question and not a spelling question
The Aadhaar is not seededPayment runs "only on the basis of Aadhaar seeded data base". An Aadhaar that is not linked, or that cannot be matched, stops the payment whatever the land record says
The bank details are wrong or incompleteThe guidelines tell States to ensure speedy reconciliation in such cases. This is a common and entirely fixable cause, and it is the first thing to check because it is the cheapest
Somebody else in the family is already being paidThe unit is a family of husband, wife and minor children. If the household is already counted once, a second name will not produce a second payment, and that is the design rather than an error
What to do about all of thisWork out which of these applies before treating it as a name. Our own reading of the guidelines is the honest starting point, but the exclusion clauses carry their own exceptions and wording, so read the list yourself and ask at the block office rather than relying on any website
We are summarising the excluded categories, not reproducing them, and the difference matters. The guidelines set out these categories with their own conditions and exceptions inside them, and a household that looks excluded at a glance is sometimes not. Read the scheme's own published list before you conclude anything about your family, and if you are close to a line, ask the block agriculture office in writing rather than guessing. Guessing is exactly what the recovery clause punishes.
The free half hour that saves months. Sit with four things: the land record, the Aadhaar, the bank passbook and whatever message or status the scheme has given you. Ask in this order. Is the household eligible at all? Is our name in the land record? Does the Aadhaar match it? Are the bank details right? Only if all four are yes is this a spelling problem, and then it is an ordinary one.

The PM-Kisan Recovery Clause, and Why You Must Never Declare a Guess

On every other page of this website our advice is to correct a record quickly. On this one it is to correct it truthfully, and the reason is a single clause.

The clause to read before you sign anything. The operational guidelines state: "In case of incorrect self declaration, beneficiary shall be liable for recovery of transferred financial benefit and other penal actions as per law." Recovery of the money already transferred, and penal action. No other record described on this website carries a clawback like that, and it changes what careful means.
1

Never declare a landholding you cannot show

The benefit goes to families whose names are entered into the land records. A declaration that stretches the truth about whose name is on what paper is precisely the kind of statement this clause is written for.

2

Never hide an exclusion to restart a payment

Income tax paid last year, a Government pension above the threshold, a practising professional in the household. These are checked against other databases, and a household that conceals one is not solving a problem, it is creating a much larger one.

3

Never let an agent fill a declaration for you unread

The liability sits with the beneficiary, not with the person who typed the form. Read every line that is submitted in your name, and keep a copy of it, every single time.

4

A genuine correction is not a false declaration

Asking for a spelling to be put right, with your own papers attached, is an ordinary and proper request. The clause is about untruth, not about correction. Do not let it frighten you away from a legitimate grievance.

5

If money has already come and you now doubt eligibility

Stop, and take advice from somebody qualified before you do anything else. This is a situation where an honest early step is worth far more than a clever one, and it is not a documentation question.

6

Keep the paper trail, always

Copies of every form submitted in your name, every acknowledgement, every land paper you relied on. The only defence to a question asked three years later is the paper you kept.

What we will and will not do on this subject, stated plainly. We will read your papers, tell you what they actually show, draft a truthful correction request and a grievance application, and tell you which office it goes to. We will not help anybody make a declaration we can see is untrue, on this scheme or any other, and we would rather lose the work than do it. If somebody is offering to get an instalment restarted without looking at your land record, ask him who carries the liability if that declaration is wrong. The answer is you.

PM-Kisan Beneficiary Details Are the State Government's Responsibility

Farmers write to a national portal, get no reply, and conclude that nobody is responsible. The guidelines say otherwise, and they say it twice.

What the PM-Kisan guidelines say about who identifies beneficiaries and who ensures the details are correct
What the guidelines sayWhat follows for you
"Responsibility of identifying the land holder farmer family eligible for benefit under the scheme shall be of the State / UT Government."Identification is a State function. So the office that can actually move your case is in your State, in your district, and very often in your block. That is where a written application belongs
"Correctness of beneficiary details is to be ensured by State / UT Governments."A duty, in plain words. Where your own papers are right and the record shows something else, you are not asking for a favour, you are asking a Government to do what the guidelines say it must
And that speedy reconciliation should be ensured where the beneficiary's bank details are wrong or incompleteSo a wrong account name or a broken account is expressly a thing the State is meant to sort out quickly. Say the word reconciliation in your application, because it is the guidelines' own word
States may "upload names of eligible beneficiaries who have been identified subsequently"The door is not shut. A household that was missed can be added later if it is genuinely eligible, which is the answer to anybody who says the list was closed years ago
And should have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation"So a change in the land record is meant to flow through into the scheme record. If you have had a mutation done, say so expressly, because that is the situation the guidelines already provide for
The practical lessonWrite in your own State, on paper, to a named office, and keep the acknowledgement. A portal with no reply is not the only route, and it is usually the least effective one
How to write it, in six lines. Say who you are and which village and khata the land is in. Say what your land record shows and what your Aadhaar shows. Say what the scheme record shows instead. Say that you are asking for the beneficiary details to be corrected, noting that correctness of beneficiary details rests with the State Government. Attach copies. Ask for a dated acknowledgement and take it away with you. That letter does more than a year of telephone calls.

The PM-Kisan Grievance Committees and the Two Week Expectation

Most farmers have never been told that the scheme has a named grievance structure with a stated timeframe. It is in the guidelines, and it is the single most useful thing on this page after the recovery clause.

The provision to quote. The guidelines say that "The States shall also notify State and District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees for looking into all the grievances related to implementation of the scheme", and that any grievances or complaints received "should be disposed off on merit preferably within two weeks time." A committee at district level, and a preference for two weeks. That is a real footing, and almost nobody uses it.
1

Start at the block, not at the top

Hand your written application in at the block agriculture office first and get it acknowledged. A grievance that has never been raised locally is easy to send back down again, and that alone wastes a month.

2

Then take it to the district level

The guidelines require a District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committee. Address your application to it by that description if nobody will tell you a name, and attach the block acknowledgement.

3

Say what you want in one sentence

Not a story. Correct the beneficiary name to match the land record and the Aadhaar, or add the household to the list, or reconcile the bank details. One clear ask, near the top of the page.

4

Quote the two week preference politely

Once, at the end, as a request rather than a demand. Officials respond to a farmer who knows the rule and resist one who shouts it. The tone is doing real work here.

5

Keep going up only with paper in hand

Each step should carry the acknowledgement of the one below it. A file that shows a date at every stage is very hard to ignore, and it is the only thing that survives a transfer of officers.

6

Do not pay anybody to do what a letter does

This route costs paper and postage. Where we earn a fee is in working out what is actually wrong and drafting it correctly, not in handing over a letter you could hand over yourself.

What we could not verify, and we will not invent. We have not verified how these committees are constituted in Jharkhand, who sits on them in any particular district, where they meet, or how often. So this page names no officer, prints no address and promises no outcome. Ask at the block agriculture office for the district committee's address, in writing, and note the date you asked. That request is itself a useful piece of paper.

Farmer Registry and Farmer ID: What Is Coming and Where the Real Website Is

Alongside the scheme there is now a larger record being built, and a farmer whose name is inconsistent today will meet the problem again through this one. It is worth understanding while you are already dealing with the papers.

What the Government has said about AgriStack, the Farmer Registry and the Farmer ID
What has been officially statedWhy it matters to a name
"AgriStack is a farmer-centric DPI that will enable efficient, easier, and faster services and scheme delivery to farmers."DPI means digital public infrastructure. The plumbing behind future schemes, which is why a mismatch here would not stay confined to one scheme
It consists of three foundational registries, "the Farmers' Registry, Geo-referenced village maps and the Crop Sown Registry"Note that two of the three are about land and crops, not about people. The farmer sits inside a structure that is mostly about fields
Farmers "will be given a digital identity (Farmer ID) similar to Aadhaar, which will be a trusted 'Kisan ki Pehchaan'"An identity of its own. Which means the spelling that goes into it at the start is the spelling that will be quoted back at you later, exactly as happens with every other identity record
The Farmer ID "will be linked dynamically to the State's land records, livestock ownership, crops sown, demographic details, family details, schemes and benefits availed etc."Linked dynamically is the useful phrase. It reads the State's land record rather than storing a frozen copy, so once again the land record is the thing worth getting right
The whole thing sits under a mission approved by the Union CabinetSo this is not a rumour in a village and it is not going away. A household that settles its spellings now is doing work it would otherwise do later anyway
What we could not verifyWe found no published correction procedure, form, fee or timeline for a name in the Farmer Registry, and nothing specific to Jharkhand's own enrolment. So we print none of those, and we tell you where to look instead
The warning this section exists for. When we searched for farmer registry information, almost every result on the first page was a private website carrying an official sounding name, built to collect visitors and, in some cases, money. The Government's own portal for this is agristack.gov.in, and a Government page address ends in a Government domain. A site whose address merely contains the word does not become official by containing it. Before you type an Aadhaar number into anything, look at the address bar.
The one action that serves both records at once. Make the land record, the Aadhaar and the bank account agree with one another now, in a quiet month, using whichever single correction is actually needed. That same work satisfies the scheme today and the registry tomorrow, because both of them read the same underlying papers. Our Aadhaar name change and bank records pages cover two of the three.

How to Correct a Name in PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Records in Jharkhand

1

Check eligibility before anything else

Read the excluded categories against your own household honestly. A family that is not eligible does not have a name problem, and months spent on a spelling will change nothing.

2

Check whether the name is in the land record

Because the benefit goes only to families whose names are entered into the land records. A son farming land still recorded in a father's name is a different question altogether.

3

Put the land record beside the Aadhaar

Read both letter by letter. Payment runs on an Aadhaar seeded database, so these two are the pair that must agree. Write down both versions before you decide anything.

4

Check the bank details early, they are the cheapest fix

Wrong or incomplete bank details are a named cause and the guidelines call for speedy reconciliation. A branch visit may end the whole matter in a morning.

5

Decide which single record is the odd one out

Not the easiest to change. Whichever disagrees with everything else the household holds is the one that is wrong, and correcting the other one costs money and settles nothing.

6

Correct the Aadhaar if that is the odd one

Aadhaar charges a fee per attempt with no refund and limits how often a name may be updated, so get the request right the first time. Our Aadhaar page covers it.

7

Treat the land record as the serious one

If the khatiyan or jamabandi carries the wrong name, take advice before acting. Our jamabandi and khatiyan page explains why, and why an advocate earns his fee there.

8

Say so expressly if a mutation has been done

The guidelines tell States to have a mechanism to revise the beneficiary's name in case of mutation. If that is your situation, you are asking for something already provided for.

9

Write to the block office, on paper

One page, one clear ask, copies attached, and note that correctness of beneficiary details rests with the State Government. Take a dated acknowledgement away with you.

10

Escalate to the district committee if nothing moves

The guidelines require District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees, with disposal preferably within two weeks. Attach the block acknowledgement to show you started properly.

11

Never sign a declaration you have not read

The recovery clause makes the beneficiary liable, not the agent. Read it, keep a copy, and refuse anything you cannot support with a paper.

12

Settle the whole household in one round

Husband, wife, the names on the land record, the Aadhaar of each. One careful round now also prepares you for the Farmer Registry, which reads the same records.

The one thing we will not help anybody do, and we say it on every farm page. A land record decides who owns land. We will not help dress a change of ownership up as a spelling correction, and we will not help anybody get a name into a land record so that a scheme will pay. If the name on the khatiyan belongs to a different person, that is a transfer or a mutation, it has its own lawful route, and it needs an advocate rather than a documentation desk.
Where most readers of this page will actually end up. Either the household is eligible and one record needs correcting, which is ordinary work, or the household is not eligible and nothing on this page will help, which is worth knowing today rather than after a year of running about. Both of those answers are free, and we would rather give you the second one honestly than sell you the first.

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a Farm Scheme Record

Read this before the rest of this section. A PM-Kisan record is not corrected by a gazette notice. The scheme pays families whose names are entered into the land records, checked against an Aadhaar seeded database, and each of those two records has its own route. This process matters to you in one situation only: where somebody in the household is genuinely changing their own name, and the Aadhaar, the bank account and in some cases the land record have to follow afterwards. It is printed in full so you can see what a real file involves, and so you recognise at once when a gazette is being sold to a farmer whose instalment has stopped. The answer there is no, because a gazette does not put a name into a land record.

No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.

The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand

1

Settle the final name first

Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.

2

Pick the category, then its proforma

A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.

3

Type the proforma in duplicate

Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.

4

Fill the employment field if it is a change of name

The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.

5

Publish and keep the original paper

One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.

6

Pay only through BharatKosh

The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.

7

Check every date, then post it yourself

Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.

8

Read the notice, then update in the right order

Check every word the day it publishes, download the e-Gazette copy, and then work through the Aadhaar and the bank account first, because the scheme reads both. Anything touching the land record is a separate revenue process and belongs with an advocate.

The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each

The five papers of a Central Gazette name file from Jharkhand and what the Department checks in each
The paperWhat is checked in it, clause by clause
1. The proforma, in duplicateThat it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number
2. The affidavit or undertakingThe same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default
3. The original newspaperThe original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year
4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paperTwo self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error
5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receiptMS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt
The proforma is where files are lost, and there are twelve to choose from. A wrongly typed spelling filed on the change of name form declares henceforth be known as, claiming a change you never made. The Government charge already paid is not refunded, because BharatKosh payments are non-refundable. You then have six months to make good a shortcoming the Department points out, after which a fresh application with all new documents is required.
What to select on BharatKosh, field by field. Pay to the Department of Publication under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and pick the Ministry, the Pay and Accounts Office and the Drawing and Disbursing Officer by their names in the dropdown, never by a code copied off a website. The codes printed for this office on different websites do not agree with each other, and money paid into the wrong head cannot be traced to your file. Read the amount on the portal on the day you pay, because it is revised each financial year.
Why a gazette cannot restart an instalment, stated as simply as we can. The scheme pays only families "whose names are entered into the land records", on the basis of an Aadhaar seeded database. A gazette notice is a published statement about a person's name. It does not enter a name into a khatiyan, it does not carry out a mutation and it does not seed an Aadhaar, so on its own it restarts nothing. Where a person is genuinely changing their name, the gazette is the evidence the later corrections rest on. Where a farmer merely has an old spelling or an unentered name, a gazette file is not the route at all, and our name correction against name change page explains that difference in full.

The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.

What a PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Name Correction Costs in Jharkhand

Cost and time for correcting a name behind a PM-Kisan payment or a Farmer Registry entry in Jharkhand
ItemCostTime
Checking eligibility against the excluded categoriesNothing, and it is the first thing to do. A household that is not eligible does not have a name problem, and finding that out today is worth more than any correctionHalf an hour with the guidelines
Reading the land record against the AadhaarNothing. Two papers on one table. The scheme pays families whose names are entered into the land records, checked against an Aadhaar seeded database, so this pair decides everythingTen minutes
A written application at the block officePaper and postage. Correctness of beneficiary details rests with the State Government, so this is a request made on a proper footing rather than a favour askedSend it the week you find the problem
A grievance to the District Level CommitteePaper and postage again. The guidelines require these committees and say grievances should preferably be disposed of within two weeks. Attach the block acknowledgementTwo weeks is the stated preference, not a promise
Correcting the bank detailsThe bank's own process at the branch. We print no charge because banks differ and we verified none. Often the cheapest and fastest of all the routes on this pageSet by the branch
Correcting the Aadhaar, where that is the record that is wrongAadhaar charges a fee per attempt with no refund and limits how often a name may be updated. Payment runs on an Aadhaar seeded database, so it has to be rightSet by the enrolment centre
Correcting or mutating the land recordThe expensive one and the serious one. A revenue process with its own costs, and the page where we tell you to take an advocate rather than a documentation deskMonths, not days
A name correction inside PM-Kisan or the Farmer Registry itselfWe print no fee, because we verified none. We found no published correction form, fee or timeline for either, and anybody quoting a fixed amount should be asked which paper he is going to changeNot stated in the sources we read
Government printing charge, only in a genuine change of a person's own nameThe guidelines print Rs 1,100 for an adult change of name and Rs 1,400 for a public notice, for FY 2016 to 2017, each with the caveat that the charge varies each financial year and from case to case. What BharatKosh shows on the payment screen the day you pay is the figure that countsPart IV publishes weekly, so allow several weeks from posting
Our chargeQuoted on your papers before you pay anything, and confirmed in writing. We print no service price on any page of this site
Do not trust a figure printed on any website, including this one, on the day you pay. The Department's own guidelines say the printing charge varies each financial year and from case to case, so the figures above are what the published guidelines show for 2016 to 2017 and are given so you know the order of the amount, not the amount. What BharatKosh shows when you reach the payment screen is the one that counts. Read it there and pay that.
Notice how much of this table costs nothing. Checking eligibility, comparing two papers, writing to the block office and taking a grievance to the district committee are all free or nearly free, and between them they settle the large majority of cases. The paid routes are the Aadhaar update and, in the hard cases, the land record. Anybody charging you a fee to restart an instalment without first doing the free half of this table is charging you for the wrong thing. The line items across all records are on our name change cost page.

Myths About PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Name Corrections

Common beliefs about correcting a name in PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry records and what is actually correct
What farmers are toldWhat is actually so
My instalment stopped, so the name must be wrongOften it is not. Eligibility, an unentered name in the land record, an unseeded Aadhaar or wrong bank details all stop a payment with a perfectly correct spelling. Check those four before you treat it as a name
I just need to declare whatever gets the money moving againThis is the single most dangerous belief on the subject. The guidelines say "In case of incorrect self declaration, beneficiary shall be liable for recovery of transferred financial benefit and other penal actions as per law." The liability is yours, not the agent's
Everybody who farms is eligibleNo. The benefit goes only to families "whose names are entered into the land records", and several categories of household are excluded outright, including income tax payers of the last assessment year and non-residents under the Income Tax Act 1961
Each adult in the house can get it separatelyThe unit is "a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records". That is the design, not an error in your case
Nobody is responsible, so there is nothing to be doneThe guidelines say identification is the State or Union Territory Government's responsibility and that "Correctness of beneficiary details is to be ensured by State / UT Governments." There is a named duty and a named forum
There is no proper complaint routeThere is. The guidelines require State and District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees, with grievances to be disposed of on merit preferably within two weeks. Almost nobody uses this
A gazette notification will restart the paymentIt will not. A gazette does not enter a name into a khatiyan, does not carry out a mutation and does not seed an Aadhaar. It changes none of the things the scheme actually reads
The list was closed years ago, so a missed household can never be addedNot so. States and Union Territories "can upload names of eligible beneficiaries who have been identified subsequently", provided the household is genuinely eligible and the records support it
A mutation does not help, the scheme will never knowThe guidelines tell States to have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation". If you have had a mutation done, say so expressly in writing, because it is already provided for
That farmer registry website with the official looking name is the Government oneCheck the address. The Government's own portal for this is agristack.gov.in, and a Government page address ends in a Government domain. Containing the word does not make a site official
The question that ends most of these conversations. Ask: is our family name actually entered in the land record, and does the Aadhaar match it? Not how do I change the name in the portal. Those two questions separate the households that have an ordinary correction to make from the households that have a land record question, an eligibility question or no question at all. All three answers are useful and all three are free.

Key Terms in a PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Name Correction

Key terms used when dealing with a wrong name in PM-Kisan or Farmer Registry records
TermWhat it means in practice
Landholder farmer family"A family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records." The unit the scheme pays, and the reason a second name in the house does not bring a second payment
Entered into the land recordsThe condition for payment. Not farming the land, not living on it. The name has to be written in the record
Aadhaar seeded databaseThe basis on which instalments are paid. Two names therefore have to agree: the one in the land record and the one on the Aadhaar
MutationThe change of a name in the land record after an inheritance, a sale or a partition. The guidelines expressly tell States to revise the beneficiary's name where one has happened
Exclusion categoryA kind of household the guidelines keep out of the scheme altogether, whatever the land record says. Read the published list against your own household honestly
Self declarationWhat you sign to say your household qualifies. An incorrect one exposes the beneficiary to recovery of the money and penal action, which is the sharpest clause on this page
ReconciliationThe guidelines' own word for sorting out wrong or incomplete bank details. Use it in your application, because it names exactly what you are asking for
Grievance Redressal Monitoring CommitteeThe State and District level committees the guidelines require, for grievances about how the scheme is being run. A forum most farmers have never been told about
AgriStackDescribed officially as "a farmer-centric DPI that will enable efficient, easier, and faster services and scheme delivery to farmers", built on three foundational registries
Farmer RegistryOne of those three registries, alongside geo-referenced village maps and the crop sown registry. The one that holds people rather than fields
Farmer IDA digital identity described as similar to Aadhaar and as a trusted Kisan ki Pehchaan, linked dynamically to the State's land records and other details
Linked dynamicallyIt reads the State's land record rather than keeping a frozen copy. Which is why the land record is worth getting right once

PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Name Help Across Jharkhand

The offices that matter here are all close to you: the block agriculture office, the circle office where the land record lives, the bank branch and the Aadhaar enrolment centre. What we do comes before those visits and usually saves most of them. We read your land paper against the Aadhaar, the bank passbook and whatever the scheme is showing, tell you honestly whether the household is eligible at all, tell you whether the name is actually entered in the land record, tell you which single record is out of step, and draft the block application and the district grievance in the words the guidelines themselves use. We will also tell you when the answer is that your household is not eligible and nothing here will help, because that answer saves a farmer a year. All of it on your scans over WhatsApp, for every district.

Send the land record and the Aadhaar

Send the land record, whether that is a khatiyan, a jamabandi extract or a rent receipt, the Aadhaar of the person in whose name it stands, the bank passbook page carrying the name, and a photograph of whatever status or message the scheme is showing you. Tell us in one line what has actually happened: the instalment has stopped, the name has come through wrongly, or the household was never on the list. Our first reply tells you whether this is a name problem at all, because very often it is an eligibility question, an unentered name in the land record or a bank detail instead. Then we tell you which single record is out of step, draft the block application and the district grievance in the guidelines' own words, and tell you what to ask for. We will not help anybody make a declaration we can see is untrue, because the recovery clause makes you liable and not us. Details on the contact page.

PM-Kisan and Farmer Registry Name Change: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change my name in PM-Kisan?+
First make sure it is a name problem, because often it is not. The scheme pays only families "whose names are entered into the land records", on the basis of an Aadhaar seeded database. So the two names that must agree are the one in the land record and the one on the Aadhaar. Correct whichever of those is actually wrong, then write to the block office asking for the beneficiary details to be corrected, noting that "Correctness of beneficiary details is to be ensured by State / UT Governments." Take a dated acknowledgement away with you.
My instalment has stopped. Is it because of the spelling?+
Check four other things first. Whether the household falls in an excluded category, whether the name is entered in the land record at all, whether the Aadhaar is seeded, and whether the bank details are right and complete. Any one of those stops a payment with a perfectly correct spelling, and the guidelines expressly call for speedy reconciliation where bank details are wrong or incomplete. Households spend months on a name when the real answer was one of these four.
Can I just declare whatever is needed to restart the money?+
No, and this is the most serious warning on this page. The guidelines state that "In case of incorrect self declaration, beneficiary shall be liable for recovery of transferred financial benefit and other penal actions as per law." Recovery of what has already been paid, and penal action. The liability sits with the beneficiary, not with the agent who filled the form. Read every line submitted in your name and keep a copy of it.
Who is a family under this scheme?+
The guidelines define a landholder farmer's family as "a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records." The unit is a household, not an individual. That is why a second adult name in the same house does not bring a second payment, and it is the design rather than a fault in your case.
I farm the land but it is still in my father's name. Can I be paid?+
This is a land record question, not a name question. The benefit goes to families whose names are entered into the land records, so farming land that is recorded in somebody else's name does not by itself qualify you. Where an inheritance or partition has happened, the route is a mutation, and the guidelines tell States to have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation." Our jamabandi and khatiyan page explains that process and why an advocate is worth the money.
Is there a complaint forum, or do I just keep telephoning?+
There is a proper forum and hardly anybody uses it. The guidelines say "The States shall also notify State and District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees for looking into all the grievances related to implementation of the scheme", and that grievances "should be disposed off on merit preferably within two weeks time." Start at the block office with a written application, get it acknowledged, then take that acknowledgement to the district level. We have not verified who sits on these committees in Jharkhand, so ask at the block office for the address in writing.
We were never on the list. Is it closed now?+
No. The guidelines say States and Union Territories "can upload names of eligible beneficiaries who have been identified subsequently", and that the responsibility for identifying eligible landholder farmer families rests with the State Government. So a genuinely eligible household that was missed can still be added, provided the land record and the Aadhaar support it. That is a written application to the block office, not a portal complaint.
Do I need a gazette notification to fix this?+
No, not for a spelling and not for a stopped payment. A gazette notice is a published statement about a person's name. It does not enter a name into a khatiyan, it does not carry out a mutation and it does not seed an Aadhaar, so it changes none of the things the scheme actually reads. Where somebody is genuinely changing their own name, the gazette is the evidence the Aadhaar and other corrections rest on. Our name correction against name change page explains which of the two situations you are in.
What is the Farmer Registry and will my name be a problem there too?+
It is one of three foundational registries under AgriStack, described officially as "a farmer-centric DPI that will enable efficient, easier, and faster services and scheme delivery to farmers", alongside geo-referenced village maps and a crop sown registry. Farmers are to be given a Farmer ID, described as "similar to Aadhaar" and linked "dynamically to the State's land records" and other details. So yes, the same mismatch would surface again, which is a good reason to settle your spellings once, now.
Which website is the official one for the Farmer Registry?+
Look at the address bar, and this matters here more than almost anywhere else on our site. When we searched, nearly every result on the first page was a private website carrying an official sounding name. The Government's own portal is agristack.gov.in, and a Government page address ends in a Government domain. A site whose address merely contains the word does not become official by containing it. Do not type an Aadhaar number into anything until you have checked.
Is there an official form and fee for a name correction in either of these?+
We looked and we will not print one we did not find. The sources we read set out no published correction form, fee or timeline for a name in PM-Kisan or in the Farmer Registry. What they do set out is who is responsible, which forum hears a grievance and within what preferred time. If somebody quotes you a fixed price to correct your name in the scheme, ask him which paper he intends to change and by what process.
How much of this can you actually do for us?+
We read the land record against the Aadhaar, the bank passbook and whatever the scheme is showing, tell you honestly whether the household is eligible at all, tell you whether the name is entered in the land record, identify which single record is out of step, and draft the block application and the district grievance in the guidelines' own words. We will tell you plainly when the household is not eligible and nothing will help, and we will not help anybody make a declaration we can see is untrue. We are a documentation consultancy and not advocates, not the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, not a bank and not a revenue office.

Who wrote and checked this page

Written and maintained by the Jharkhandnamechange.com documentation desk, led by founder Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, with 5+ years filing with the Department of Publication. The quoted positions on this page come from two Government sources and we keep them separate. From the revised operational guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, published on the scheme's own portal: that a landholder farmer's family is "a family comprising of husband, wife and minor children who owns cultivable land as per land records"; that "The benefit shall be paid to only those farmers' families whose names are entered into the land records"; that several categories are excluded, among them former and present holders of constitutional posts, certain Government officers, employees and pensioners by income, "All Persons who paid Income Tax in last assessment year", "Professionals like Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects" and, in terms of the provisions of the Income Tax Act 1961, non-resident Indians; that payment of instalments from the December 2019 to March 2020 trimester onwards is made "only on the basis of Aadhaar seeded data base"; that "Responsibility of identifying the land holder farmer family eligible for benefit under the scheme shall be of the State / UT Government"; that "Correctness of beneficiary details is to be ensured by State / UT Governments" with speedy reconciliation where bank details are wrong or incomplete; that States may "upload names of eligible beneficiaries who have been identified subsequently" and should have a mechanism "to ensure revision of the name of the beneficiary in case of mutation"; that "In case of incorrect self declaration, beneficiary shall be liable for recovery of transferred financial benefit and other penal actions as per law"; and that "The States shall also notify State and District Level Grievance Redressal Monitoring Committees" with grievances to be "disposed off on merit preferably within two weeks time." From the Press Information Bureau's release on the Cabinet's approval of the Digital Agriculture Mission: that "AgriStack is a farmer-centric DPI that will enable efficient, easier, and faster services and scheme delivery to farmers"; that "It consists of three foundational registries or databases in the agriculture sector, i.e., the Farmers' Registry, Geo-referenced village maps and the Crop Sown Registry"; that farmers "will be given a digital identity (Farmer ID) similar to Aadhaar, which will be a trusted 'Kisan ki Pehchaan'"; and that this Farmer ID "will be linked dynamically to the State's land records, livestock ownership, crops sown, demographic details, family details, schemes and benefits availed etc." Four limits are declared on the page itself. First, the excluded categories are summarised and not reproduced, because the guidelines set them out with their own conditions and exceptions, and the page tells the reader to read the published list rather than rely on any website including this one. Second, we found no published correction form, fee or timeline for a name in either PM-Kisan or the Farmer Registry, so we print none. Third, we have not verified how the grievance committees are constituted in Jharkhand, who sits on them or where they meet, so the page names no officer, prints no address and promises no outcome, and describes the two week disposal as the guidelines' stated preference rather than a guarantee. Fourth, nothing Jharkhand-specific about the Farmer Registry enrolment has been verified by us. The framing of the subject as an eligibility question before a name question, the use of the recovery clause to argue against a careless declaration, and the emphasis on the grievance committees as an unused route, are our own working practice and are described as such. We state on the page that we will not help anybody make a declaration we can see is untrue, and that we will not help present a transfer of land as a spelling correction, which is the same position we take on our land records page. The gazette category positions and the printing charges shown are from the Department of Publication's own published guidelines for FY 2016 to 2017, with the guidelines' own caveat that they vary each financial year and from case to case. We are a documentation consultancy and not advocates, not the Department of Publication, not the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, not UIDAI, not any bank and not a revenue office. Who we are is on the about page.

A PM-Kisan Name Problem in Eight Lines

The short version

  • The benefit goes to families whose names are in the land records.
  • The unit is a household: husband, wife and minor children.
  • Payment runs on an Aadhaar seeded database, so two names must agree.
  • A stopped instalment is often eligibility, not spelling.
  • An incorrect self declaration means recovery and penal action.
  • Correctness of beneficiary details rests with the State Government.
  • District grievance committees exist, with two weeks preferred.
  • The Farmer ID reads the same land records, so settle them once.

Before you sign anything to restart an instalment, let somebody read your papers.

The recovery clause makes the beneficiary liable, not the person who filled the form. Send us the land record, the Aadhaar and the bank page, and we will tell you what they actually show.
