Reading the published notice

The e-Gazette PDF carries the Gazette of India number, the Part IV heading, the date of publication, the page number and your notice in its own paragraph. Every office reads the number, the date and the page; write them on every covering letter. A notice with a misprint is corrected by corrigendum within six months, free where the press erred; a corrected notice is what each office gets.

Two proformas, two fees. A chosen new name is a change of name, "hitherto known as", commonly Rs 1,100. A name wrongly written on a certificate is a PUBLIC NOTICE quoting the misprint exactly, commonly Rs 1,350, on the public notice page. Sending one for the other's case returns the file and the fee is not refunded. A name wrongly written on a JAC certificate or an old mica company record is a public notice; a name you have chosen is a change of name, and the two proformas are not interchangeable.

School, Board and Mica Belt Records in Koderma

A Jharkhand Academic Council certificate is corrected against the school's admission register, through the school rather than through you, escalated to the District Education Officer or District Superintendent of Education when a school will not forward the file. This district also has schools that draw students from far outside it, including a Sainik School at Tilaiya and Kendriya Vidyalayas, and those follow their own boards, usually CBSE, with their own forms and deadlines. Anyone schooled here before 2000 holds a Bihar School Examination Board certificate, and that board corrects it.

The mica belt papers. Mining began here in the 1890s and the old mining houses left behind employment cards, provident fund papers and company school records in every spelling of every name.
