DIN Director Name Change in Jharkhand: DIR-6 Filing, PAN First and Gazette Question

If you are a director of a company or a designated partner of an LLP in Jharkhand and your name has changed or was wrongly recorded, the change is reported to the Central Government on Form DIR-6. MCA's instruction kit says directors must file it "to intimate any change in their particulars to the Central Government within a period of 30 days", and that "the name shall be verified based on PAN." It adds that a director "would need to get the name corrected in the income tax PAN database before filing Form DIR-6". So the real work is PAN. For a spelling slip, PAN is usually corrected without a Gazette notice. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first.

30Days to file DIR-6 after the change, per MCA's kit
1Record the name is checked against: PAN
0Fee: MCA's kit marks the fee section "not applicable"
3Professionals who can certify it: CA, CS or CMA in practice
Quick answer

Five points, in the order you will need them. First, correct your name in PAN; MCA checks the DIR-6 name against the PAN database. Second, for a spelling slip, PAN is usually corrected with Aadhaar and your certificates, not a Gazette. Third, for a married woman, a marriage certificate usually supports the PAN change. Fourth, file DIR-6 within 30 days, certified by a chartered accountant, company secretary or cost accountant in whole-time practice. Fifth, tell every company or LLP you are on, and update your digital signature certificate. We publish Gazette notices, and we say plainly that most director name corrections need none.

What Form DIR-6 Is and What MCA Checks in a Director's Name

DIN director name change in Jharkhand, with Form DIR-6, the director's PAN card and the MCA portal
DIR-6 carries the name exactly as PAN shows it.

DIR-6 is filed under Rule 12(1) of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014, by "A director or a designated partner having an approved DIN/DPIN", per MCA's instruction kit. The kit also says it is "processed in STP mode", meaning straight through by the system, with "no provision for resubmission". So a mistake means filing again.

What MCA's DIR-6 instruction kit says about the name and the filing
PointWhat MCA's kit says
Time limit"within a period of 30 days" of the change
Name check"the name shall be verified based on PAN"
Single nameAllowed only "if same single name is there in Income tax PAN database"
Father's name"Even married women must enter details of father's name"
PAN attachmentMandatory where PAN is given in the form
CertificationBy a chartered accountant, cost accountant or company secretary in whole-time practice
The rule that decides everything. MCA's kit says the director "would need to get the name corrected in the income tax PAN database before filing Form DIR-6". If PAN still shows the old or wrong name, DIR-6 will not match. See our PAN card name change page.

Which Director Name Change You Have

Director name problems usually fall into a few kinds. This sorting is ours, built on the PAN rule in MCA's kit.

Kinds of director name change
What happenedWhat it usually is
DIN name differs from PAN by a letter or initialsA slip made when the DIN was allotted
PAN itself has a spelling slipA slip in PAN, to be fixed first
Woman director's surname changed by marriageA change by marriage
Father's name wrong in DINOften a slip; the kit makes father's name mandatory
A completely new nameA genuine change of name
A married woman still gives her father's name. MCA's kit is clear that "Even married women must enter details of father's name". So a married woman director changes her surname, but the father's name field stays. See our father's name correction in PAN page if that field is wrong in PAN.

How to Fix Each Director Name Case: PAN, Then DIR-6

Every case runs through PAN. This is our practical advice, built on MCA's rule that the name is verified against PAN.

Fixing each kind of director name case
CaseWhat usually fixes it
DIN differs, PAN is rightFile DIR-6 with the name as in PAN
PAN has a spelling slipCorrect PAN with Aadhaar and your certificates, then DIR-6
Change by marriageCorrect PAN with the marriage certificate, then DIR-6. See name change for married women
Father's name wrongCorrect it in PAN if wrong there, then DIR-6
Genuine new nameA Central Gazette notice, then PAN, then DIR-6
What the older guides say about the Gazette. TaxGuru's guide, written for the older form, reports that for a name change "The change must be first published in the official gazette", while minor corrections such as a spelling slip or an added middle name do not need it. MCA's current kit lists no Gazette attachment; it relies on PAN. Ask your certifying professional which proof to attach as an optional document.

After DIR-6: Companies, LLPs and Your Digital Signature

DIR-6 updates your DIN record with the Central Government. It does not by itself update everything else that carries your name. This list is ours, as a checklist.

What to update after a director's DIR-6 is approved
RecordWhat to do
Each company where you are a directorInform the company so its register of directors can be updated
Each LLP where you are a designated partnerInform the LLP; DIR-6 covers DPIN too
Digital signature certificateGet one in the new name if the old one no longer matches
Bank mandates of the companiesUpdate authorised signatory records. See bank records
GST and Udyam, where you are namedSee Udyam and GST
Which company forms follow is a question for your company secretary. We did not verify the company-side filings that follow a director's change of particulars, so we name none. Your company secretary or chartered accountant will know what each company needs to do.

Does a DIN Name Change Need a Gazette Notice?

For a spelling slip or initials, usually not. MCA checks DIR-6 against PAN, and PAN is usually corrected with Aadhaar and certificates. For marriage, usually not: a marriage certificate supports the PAN change. For a genuine new name, a Gazette notice is the clean proof, for PAN and for your professional to attach.

When a Gazette notice is relevant to a DIN name change
SituationWhat usually applies
DIN differs from a correct PANDIR-6 alone. No Gazette
Spelling slip in PANPAN correction. No Gazette
Change by marriageMarriage certificate. No Gazette
Genuine new nameA Central Gazette notice is the clean route
Our commercial interest, stated plainly. We publish Gazette notices. For most director name corrections, you do not need one. Where you have genuinely changed your name, it goes in the Gazette of India, Part IV, since the Jharkhand state press stopped personal notices in July 2025, as reported.

How to Change a Director's Name in DIN, Step by Step

1

Compare your DIN name with PAN

On the MCA portal.

2

Decide if PAN itself is wrong

Letter by letter.

3

Correct PAN first if needed

With Aadhaar, certificates or marriage proof.

4

Wait until PAN shows the new name

Check it online.

5

Engage a CA, CS or CMA in practice

To certify DIR-6.

6

Fill DIR-6 with the PAN name exactly

Father's name too.

7

Attach PAN and any optional proof

Up to five optional files.

8

File within 30 days of the change

No resubmission.

9

Tell each company and LLP

For their records.

10

Update your digital signature and bank mandates

Where the name changed.

The one rule that holds the whole job together. PAN first, DIR-6 second. MCA checks one against the other, and there is no resubmission.

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a DIN Name Change

Read this before the rest of this section, because most director name corrections never need it. A DIN that differs from a correct PAN needs only DIR-6; a PAN spelling slip is corrected with Aadhaar and certificates; a married woman uses her marriage certificate. No Gazette notice is needed for those. It is printed in full for a genuine new name.

No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.

The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand

1

Settle the final name first

Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.

2

Pick the category, then its proforma

A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.

3

Type the proforma in duplicate

Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.

4

Fill the employment field if it is a change of name

The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.

5

Publish and keep the original paper

One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.

6

Pay only through BharatKosh

The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.

7

Check every date, then post it yourself

Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.

8

Read the notice, then update in the right order

Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update PAN and Aadhaar, then file DIR-6, then tell each company and update your digital signature.

The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each

The five papers of a Central Gazette name file from Jharkhand and what the Department checks in each
The paperWhat is checked in it, clause by clause
1. The proforma, in duplicateThat it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number
2. The affidavit or undertakingThe same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default
3. The original newspaperThe original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year
4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paperTwo self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error
5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receiptMS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt
The proforma is where files are lost, and there are twelve to choose from. A wrongly typed spelling filed on the change of name form declares henceforth be known as, claiming a change you never made. The Government charge already paid is not refunded, because BharatKosh payments are non-refundable. You then have six months to make good a shortcoming the Department points out, after which a fresh application with all new documents is required.
What to select on BharatKosh, field by field. Pay to the Department of Publication under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and pick the Ministry, the Pay and Accounts Office and the Drawing and Disbursing Officer by their names in the dropdown, never by a code copied off a website. The codes printed for this office on different websites do not agree with each other, and money paid into the wrong head cannot be traced to your file. Read the amount on the portal on the day you pay, because it is revised each financial year.
What a Gazette notice will not do for a DIN. It will not change your DIN record by itself, and it will not change PAN; MCA still checks DIR-6 against PAN. It links old and new names, and nothing more. Since we publish these notices, the honest version is this: for most director name corrections, you need none. Our name correction against name change page explains the categories.

The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.

What a DIN Name Change Costs

MCA's instruction kit marks the fee section for DIR-6 "not applicable". The costs are the PAN correction, the professional's certification and a new signature, and usually not a Gazette notice.

Costs connected with a director's name change
ItemWhat we can and cannot tell you
DIR-6 on the MCA portalFee section "not applicable", per MCA's kit
PAN correctionThe Income Tax service provider's charge. We print no figure

New digital signature certificateThe issuer's charge, if needed
Gazette noticeOnly for a genuine new name. Paid on BharatKosh, revised each year and non-refundable
What we chargeQuoted on the call. For telling you whether you need a Gazette, nothing
The mistake that costs the most. Filing DIR-6 before PAN is corrected. The form is processed straight through with "no provision for resubmission", so a mismatch means starting again. Fix PAN first.

The DIR-6 rules on this page are quoted from MCA's instruction kit for the DIR-6 webform: the 30 days, the PAN check, PAN correction first, father's name for married women, the attachments, certification and straight-through processing. The Gazette line for the older form is as reported by TaxGuru. Three limits are declared openly on the page itself. First, MCA's current kit lists no Gazette attachment, so which optional proof to attach is for your professional. Second, we did not verify the company-side filings that follow. Third, we print no PAN or professional fee. We publish Gazette notices, and this page says plainly that most director name corrections need none. We are a documentation consultancy and not advocates, not chartered accountants or company secretaries, not MCA, and not the Department of Publication. Who we are is on the about page.
