UGC NET Application Name Mismatch in Jharkhand: Correction Window, Aadhaar and the NET Certificate
Postgraduates from Ranchi University, Kolhan, Vinoba Bhave and Sido Kanhu Murmu universities apply for UGC NET and later need the NET certificate for teaching posts and PhD admission. A name typed wrong in the form can follow you. For June 2026, the NTA correction window ran from 26 to 28 May 2026 and allowed any one of "candidate name, father's name, or mother's name" to be changed, as reported by Testbook from the NTA notice. Once the window closes, we know of no published route. We publish Gazette notices, and we say this first: a UGC NET spelling slip needs no Gazette notice.
Five points, in the order you will need them. First, type your name exactly as on your matric certificate and degree when you register. Second, check the confirmation page the day you submit. Third, if you find a slip, use the correction window; for June 2026 it allowed only one of name, father's name or mother's name, as reported. Fourth, after the window closes, write to NTA and keep a copy; we print no route we could not verify. Fifth, if your degree carries the wrong name, fix the degree at the university. We publish Gazette notices, and we say plainly that a UGC NET spelling slip needs none.
What NTA Allowed in the UGC NET June 2026 Correction Window
NTA published a notice on the correction window on its UGC NET site on 26 May 2026. We could not open the notice text itself, so the details below are as reported.

How to Handle a UGC NET Name Mismatch
The correction window is the only route we could confirm. This table is our practical advice. NTA decides anything outside the window.

UGC NET Certificate and JRF Award Letter: Where a Name Mismatch Shows
NTA issues the NET e-certificate and the JRF award letter online, on its e-certificate portal. In our experience the name follows the application, so a slip in the form can appear on the certificate. We did not verify NTA's route to correct a certificate.

Does a UGC NET Name Mismatch Need a Gazette Notice?
No, for a slip. A form slip is fixed in the correction window. A degree slip is fixed at the university. A Gazette notice is for a genuine change of name.

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a UGC NET Candidate
No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.
The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand
Settle the final name first
Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.
Pick the category, then its proforma
A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.
Type the proforma in duplicate
Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.
Fill the employment field if it is a change of name
The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student or a homemaker should still complete it rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.
Publish and keep the original paper
One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.
Pay only through BharatKosh
The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.
Check every date, then post it yourself
Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.
Read the notice, then update in the right order
Check every word the day it publishes and download the e-Gazette copy. Then update Aadhaar and PAN, and apply for UGC NET in the new name.

What Fixing a UGC NET Name Mismatch Costs
We did not verify any NTA fee for corrections, so we print none. The larger cost is a certificate that does not match your degree. It is usually not a Gazette notice.
