A name locked in here follows the whole academic career • Two chains must agree, not one • And a missed year does not come back

Name Change in Scholarship and e-Kalyan Records in Jharkhand

One sentence on the National Scholarship Portal explains why this page matters more than its subject suggests. One Time Registration "is a unique 14-digit number issued based on the Aadhaar/Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID) and is applicable for the entire academic career of the student", and it "is mandatory to avail scholarships". Read that again. The name that goes in is built on the Aadhaar, and it stays with the student for the entire academic career. A spelling settled carelessly at fifteen is still there at a post-graduate renewal. Jharkhand's own e-Kalyan portal works the same way across years, telling returning students to "apply application by using your same login and password without register again". So an error does not sit still. It travels.

14Digits in the registration that follows the student
2Chains the name has to satisfy at once
1Application window a year, and it closes

Quick answer

Settle the spelling once, early, and settle it against the right document, because on a scholarship record the usual advice reverses. Everywhere else on this website we tell you to fix Aadhaar first and let the other records follow. Here you may have to do the opposite, and it is worth understanding why. A scholarship has to satisfy two separate chains at the same time. The academic chain is the school and board certificate, the college record and the marksheets of the qualifying examination. The identity chain is the Aadhaar and the bank account. The academic chain contains the one document a student usually cannot simply change, which is the board certificate, and correcting it has its own route and its own deadlines. So where the board certificate carries one form of the name and the Aadhaar another, the sensible direction is very often to bring the Aadhaar to the certificate, not the certificate to the Aadhaar. Then there is the timing. The National Scholarship Portal states that One Time Registration "is a unique 14-digit number issued based on the Aadhaar/Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID) and is applicable for the entire academic career of the student" and that it "is mandatory to avail scholarships". Jharkhand's e-Kalyan portal, run by the Welfare Department for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and backward class students, similarly has returning students use "your same login and password without register again". A name entered once carries forward year after year. And a missed application window is a missed year of money that nobody gives back.

A Scholarship Name Is Entered Once and Follows the Entire Academic Career

Name change in scholarship and e-Kalyan records in Jharkhand
A spelling settled at fifteen is still there at a post-graduate renewal. That is the whole point.

Most records on this site can be corrected whenever you get round to them. A scholarship record is different because of how it is designed to persist.

What the scholarship portals say about registration persisting across years
What the portal saysWhat it means for a student's name
One Time Registration "is a unique 14-digit number issued based on the Aadhaar/Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID) and is applicable for the entire academic career of the student"The registration is built on the Aadhaar and is designed to last the whole academic career. Whatever spelling is in place when it is created is the spelling the student carries forward
One Time Registration "is mandatory to avail scholarships" and "is required to apply for scholarship"There is no route around it. So the moment a student first registers is the moment the name question should already have been settled, not the moment it gets noticed
On e-Kalyan, students who have registered before are told to "apply application by using your same login and password without register again into our portal"The Jharkhand portal carries the student forward the same way. A detail entered in the first year is still the detail in the fourth
e-Kalyan is run by "the Welfare Department running various schemes for the welfare of the backward classes and the SC/ST", covering pre matric and post matric within and outside the StateSo the same student may move from a pre matric to a post matric scheme, and from a Jharkhand college to one outside the State, carrying the same record through all of it
Students are "advised to give their AADHAAR linked bank account number while applying", and the portal lets them check that linkageThe bank account is part of the record too, and its name has to sit correctly beside the rest. The portal itself gives a way to check the linkage, which is worth using before applying rather than after
What follows from all of thisA scholarship name error is not a one year problem. Left alone it is a ten year problem, resurfacing at every renewal, every change of institution and every course
The single most useful thing on this page, for a parent. If there is a child in the house who will apply for a scholarship in the next year or two, settle the spelling of their name before the first registration is created. Once. Now. While the choice is still free and nothing has been locked in. It is far easier than untangling the same spelling from a portal record, a board certificate and a bank account four years later.
The check that takes ten minutes. Put the student's board certificate or marksheet, their Aadhaar, their bank passbook and their caste certificate on one table. Read the name on all four, letter by letter, and read the father's and mother's names too. Most families have never seen these four side by side, and most discover at least one difference when they do.

The Two Chains a Scholarship Name Has to Satisfy, and Why Aadhaar Comes Second

This is the section that makes this page different from every other record page on this website, and it is worth reading slowly because it contradicts our usual advice on purpose.

The academic chain and the identity chain in a scholarship application
The chainWhat is in it, and how easily it moves
The academic chainThe school record, the board certificate and marksheet of the qualifying examination, the college or institution record, and the admission papers. The board certificate is the hard point. It has its own correction route, its own evidence requirements and often its own deadlines, and a student cannot simply retype it
The identity chainThe Aadhaar, on which the registration number is built, and the bank account the money is to reach. Both are correctable, at a cost, and both are far more moveable than a board certificate
Why the usual advice reverses hereEverywhere else we say fix Aadhaar first and let the rest follow. On a scholarship the board certificate is often the record that cannot move, so the sensible direction is frequently to bring the Aadhaar to the certificate. Doing it the other way round means fighting the hardest document in the chain
The third thing people forgetThe caste certificate and the income certificate. These are what establish the category the scholarship is given under, and their names have to sit correctly beside both chains. Our caste certificate page deals with that record
The parent's name is in both chains tooThe father's and mother's names appear on the board certificate and on the certificates that establish category. A mismatch there stops an application just as firmly as the student's own. Our father name spelling mismatch page covers it
When the board certificate genuinely is the wrong oneSometimes it is, and then it has to be corrected properly rather than worked around. Our JAC certificate name correction page sets out that route, and our JAC marksheet correction against gazette page explains which route applies
Decide the direction before spending a rupee, because both directions cost money. Correcting a board certificate has its own process and its own evidence. Correcting an Aadhaar charges a fee per attempt with no refund and limits how often a name may be updated. Choosing the wrong direction means paying for one and then paying for the other. Look at which document the student will carry for the next ten years, and which one the rest can most easily be brought to.
In Jharkhand this lands hardest on tribal surnames, and the answer is the same every time. Hembrom or Hembram on the board certificate, the other form on the Aadhaar. Oraon or Uraon. A Santali name written by ear at a school admission years ago. Neither form is wrong; they are both in real use. Pick one, and pick the one the academic chain already carries unless there is a good reason not to. Our tribal surname spelling correction page sets out how to choose, and the name mismatch between a JAC marksheet and Aadhaar page deals with exactly this pair.

The Annual Scholarship Window, and What a Missed Year Actually Costs

Almost every other record on this site can be corrected late with nothing lost but time. A scholarship cannot, and that changes how urgently a name question should be treated.

1

The window opens and closes each year

Both portals publish a schedule with registration, submission and document upload dates for each session. We print no date here, because the schedule changes every year and a stale date is worse than none.

2

A missed year is not recoverable

Unlike a ration card or a bank record, there is no catching up later. The money for that academic session is simply not received, and for many families it was the reason the course was affordable.

3

The name check happens at the worst time

Verification happens while the window is open, when the institution is busy and the deadline is close. That is not the moment to begin correcting a board certificate.

4

A correction can take longer than the window

An Aadhaar update, a board certificate correction or a fresh caste certificate can each outlast the application period. So the correction has to start months before the window, not during it.

5

The error repeats every year until fixed

Because the registration carries forward. A student who scrapes through one year with a workaround meets the same problem at the next renewal, and the one after.

6

The student is usually the one chasing it

Often a first generation student, away from home, holding their own documents for the first time. If you are the parent, do this part for them, in the summer, before the session starts.

So the right time to read this page is not when the portal opens. It is the holiday before. Check the four documents in a quiet month, start any correction then, and arrive at the application window with everything already agreeing. Every family we have seen lose a scholarship year lost it to a document they could have corrected three months earlier.
Use the portal's own check before you apply, not after. The Jharkhand portal tells students they are "advised to give their AADHAAR linked bank account number while applying" and provides a way to check that linkage. Use it before the window opens. Finding out that a bank account is not linked while a deadline is running is a bad way to spend a week.

How to Fix a Name for a Scholarship or e-Kalyan Application in Jharkhand

1

Start months before the window

Not when the portal opens. A board certificate correction or an Aadhaar update can each take longer than the application period, so the work has to begin in a quiet month.

2

Lay out the four documents

The board certificate or marksheet, the Aadhaar, the bank passbook and the caste certificate. Read the student's name and both parents' names on all four.

3

Decide which chain is the fixed point

Usually the board certificate, because it is hardest to move. If it is correct, bring everything else to it. This is the decision the whole job turns on.

4

Correct the board certificate only if it is genuinely wrong

And then properly. Our JAC certificate name correction page sets out that route and our JAC marksheet correction against gazette page explains which applies.

5

Bring the Aadhaar into line

Once, after the decision is made. Aadhaar charges a fee per attempt with no refund and limits how often a name may be updated, so going twice is the expensive mistake here.

6

Check the caste and income certificates

They establish the category the scholarship is given under, so their names have to agree as well. A fresh certificate takes its own time, which is another reason to start early.

7

Open or correct the bank account in the student's own name

And check the Aadhaar linkage using the portal's own facility. Do this before the window opens rather than during it.

8

Create the registration only once everything agrees

Because the registration is built on the Aadhaar and is "applicable for the entire academic career of the student". This is the moment the spelling gets locked in.

9

Keep the same login for later years

e-Kalyan tells returning students to use "your same login and password without register again". Write the details down somewhere the family can find them, not only on the student's phone.

10

Ask the institution's scholarship desk first

Colleges verify these applications and see the same problems every session. They are usually the fastest free answer on what a particular mismatch needs.

11

Keep every acknowledgement

Of the application, of any correction, and of anything handed to the institution. A scholarship file is checked by people who were not there when it was made.

12

Check again at every renewal

Because a corrected document does not always reach a record that was created years earlier. Read the application back against the certificate each year.

Steps 1 and 3 decide everything else. Start early, and work out which document is the fixed point before touching any of them. Families who start at the Aadhaar because that is what they know how to change are the ones who end up correcting the same name twice.

Where the record carries a Hindi form of the name against an English one, see our Hindi to English name spelling difference page, and where a verification is already booked, our name mismatch at document verification page. Students applying for Government posts later should also read our name correction before JSSC and JPSC verification page, because the same certificate is checked again there.

Central Gazette Process for a Name From Jharkhand, and Where It Fits a Scheme Record

Read this before the rest of this section. Nothing about a scholarship or e-Kalyan record is ever published in a gazette. A scholarship application is checked against the board certificate, the Aadhaar and the category certificates, and each of those has its own correction route. This process matters to you in one situation only: where somebody in the household is genuinely changing their own name, which for a student is rare, and where the scholarship record is one of the records that follows afterwards. It is printed in full so you can see what a real file involves, and so you recognise at once when a gazette is being sold to a student with a deadline running. The answer there is almost always no, and the deadline is exactly what makes the sale work.

No district in Jharkhand has a gazette counter, so a genuine file goes from Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Deoghar or anywhere else in the state to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, and the notice publishes in Part IV of the Gazette of India. As reported in July 2025 the Finance Department stopped personal name change notifications from the Jharkhand Government Press with immediate effect, so there is no state alternative to fall back on.

The Eight Steps of a Name File Sent From Jharkhand

1

Settle the final name first

Letter by letter, with the spacing you want, and then use exactly that everywhere, Aadhaar included. A corrigendum after publication is a second fee and a second wait.

2

Pick the category, then its proforma

A genuine change of name is change of Name Adult or Major. A wrongly typed spelling is the public notice for a wrongly written name. Twelve categories exist and only one is yours.

3

Type the proforma in duplicate

Two originals with two witnesses giving signature, full name, address and mobile number on both copies. A change of name is signed in the old name; a public notice is signed in your own name.

4

Fill the employment field if it is a change of name

The adult proforma asks for the post of the applicant and the office or company name. A student should enter the institution rather than leaving it blank, because a blank field brings the file back.

5

Publish and keep the original paper

One of the daily local leading newspapers, carrying both names in full, the father or husband name and the residential address. The whole original paper goes in the file, not a cutting.

6

Pay only through BharatKosh

The Non Tax Receipt Portal and nowhere else since October 2018. Select the Department of Publication by name, read the amount the portal shows on the day, pay in your own name and print the e-receipt.

7

Check every date, then post it yourself

Nothing in the file older than one year. Personally or by post or courier only, never through an agent or advocate. Photocopy everything first, because nothing sent in comes back.

8

Read the notice, then update in the right order

Check every word the day it publishes, download the e-Gazette copy, and then work through the board certificate route first where that is the record being corrected, the Aadhaar next, and the scholarship record after them.

The Five Papers in the File, and What Is Checked in Each

The five papers of a Central Gazette name file from Jharkhand and what the Department checks in each
The paperWhat is checked in it, clause by clause
1. The proforma, in duplicateThat it is the right category format; the existing full name exactly as your documents carry it; the new full name exactly as settled; the father or husband name; the full address with pin code; the post and office or company name where it is a change of name; the signature in the right name for the category; two witnesses complete with signature, full name, address and mobile number
2. The affidavit or undertakingThe same names and address as the proforma, word for word, with wording matching the category. On Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper as our safe default
3. The original newspaperThe original paper, not a cutting; the paper name and date of publication visible; both names carried; the father or husband name and residential address; dated within the last year
4. Photographs, identity proof and any category paperTwo self attested passport photographs; self attested identity and address proof matching the proforma address; both witnesses proofs; and, in a public notice file, the attested photocopy of the connected document carrying the error
5. The CD, its certificate and the BharatKosh receiptMS Word, without the witness portion, with the name typed in place of the signature; the certificate that the hard copy and the soft copy are the same; the forwarding letter to the Controller of Publication with a telephone number and email; the e-receipt
The proforma is where files are lost, and there are twelve to choose from. A wrongly typed spelling filed on the change of name form declares henceforth be known as, claiming a change you never made. The Government charge already paid is not refunded, because BharatKosh payments are non-refundable. You then have six months to make good a shortcoming the Department points out, after which a fresh application with all new documents is required.
What to select on BharatKosh, field by field. Pay to the Department of Publication under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and pick the Ministry, the Pay and Accounts Office and the Drawing and Disbursing Officer by their names in the dropdown, never by a code copied off a website. The codes printed for this office on different websites do not agree with each other, and money paid into the wrong head cannot be traced to your file. Read the amount on the portal on the day you pay, because it is revised each financial year.
Be careful about who suggests a gazette to a student with a deadline running. A gazette notice is about a person's name. It does not correct a board certificate, it does not change a caste certificate, and it does not by itself fix a scholarship application. And it takes weeks. A student whose application window closes this month cannot wait for a publication, which is precisely why this is sold to them in that month. Ask the institution scholarship desk first. A board correction route or an Aadhaar update is usually the real answer, and both are cheaper.

The posting detail is on the sending the file to Delhi page, the change of name wording on the proforma format page and the public notice wording on the public notice proforma page, the charge by category on the fee and undertaking page, the reasons files come back on the rejection reasons page, and the download on the download page.

What a Scholarship and e-Kalyan Name Correction Costs in Jharkhand

Cost and time for a scholarship and e-Kalyan record name correction in Jharkhand
ItemCostTime
Comparing the four documentsNothing, and it decides the whole job. The board certificate, the Aadhaar, the bank passbook and the caste certificate, read together in a quiet monthOne sitting
Asking the institution's scholarship deskNothing. Colleges verify these applications every session and see the same mismatches repeatedly. Usually the fastest correct answer available to a studentOne visit
Correcting the Aadhaar, where that is the right directionAadhaar charges a fee per attempt with no refund and limits how often a name may be updated. The expensive mistake here is going twice, which is what happens when the direction was not decided firstSet by the centre. Can outlast an application window, so start early
Correcting the board certificate, where that is genuinely the wrong recordThe board's own charge, which we do not print here because it is the board's to state. Our board correction pages set out the routeSet by the board. Frequently longer than the scholarship window
A fresh caste or income certificateThe issuing office's own charge, which we have not verified and do not printSet by the office, and also capable of outlasting the window
The scholarship application itselfWe print no application fee, because we verified none, and we print no schedule or last date, because the dates change every session and a stale date is worse than none. Read the schedule on the portal for the current sessionPublished on the portal each session
Government printing charge, only in a genuine change of the student's own nameThe guidelines print Rs 1,100 for an adult change of name and Rs 1,400 for a public notice, for FY 2016 to 2017, each with the caveat that the charge varies each financial year and from case to case. What BharatKosh shows on the payment screen the day you pay is the figure that countsPart IV publishes weekly, so allow several weeks from posting
Our chargeQuoted on your papers before you pay anything, and confirmed in writing. We print no service price on any page of this site
Do not trust a figure printed on any website, including this one, on the day you pay. The Department's own guidelines say the printing charge varies each financial year and from case to case, so the figures above are what the published guidelines show for 2016 to 2017 and are given so you know the order of the amount, not the amount. What BharatKosh shows when you reach the payment screen is the one that counts. Read it there and pay that.
The real cost on this page is not on the table. It is the scholarship year a student loses because a correction was started in the month the window was open rather than three months before it. That amount is larger than every charge above put together, and for many Jharkhand families it is the difference between a course continuing and not. Start early and the whole thing is cheap. The line items across all records are on our name change cost page.

Myths About Scholarship and e-Kalyan Name Corrections

Common beliefs about scholarship record name corrections and what is actually correct
What people are toldWhat is actually so
Fix the Aadhaar first, as with every other recordNot necessarily here, and this page says so deliberately. The board certificate is usually the record that cannot easily move, so the sensible direction is often to bring the Aadhaar to the certificate. Decide the direction before paying for either
A scholarship name can be corrected next yearThe registration is "applicable for the entire academic career of the student" and returning students on e-Kalyan use "your same login and password without register again". An error carries forward and reappears at every renewal until it is properly settled
A missed application window can be made up laterIt cannot. Unlike a ration card or a bank record, there is no catching up on a scholarship session. The money for that year is simply not received, and that is usually the reason the course was affordable
Only the student's own name mattersThe father's and mother's names appear on the board certificate and on the certificates establishing the category, and a mismatch there stops an application just as firmly. Check all of them together
The caste certificate is a separate matterIt is not. The caste and income certificates establish the category the scholarship is given under, so their names have to agree with both the academic and the identity chains. A fresh certificate also takes its own time
A gazette notification will sort the application outIt will not, and this is sold to students precisely because a deadline is running. A gazette is about a person's name. It does not correct a board certificate or a caste certificate, and it takes weeks a student with an open window does not have
Any bank account will doThe Jharkhand portal advises students to "give their AADHAAR linked bank account number while applying" and provides a way to check that linkage. Use the check before the window opens, not during it, and expect the account to be in the student's own name
Two spellings of a tribal surname mean one is a mistakeUsually both are in genuine use, and treating one as an error sends a family down the wrong route. Pick one, normally the one the academic chain already carries, using our tribal surname spelling correction page
The dates are the same every year, so last year's are fineThey are not. We print no schedule or last date anywhere on this page, because the schedule changes each session and a stale date is worse than no date. Read the current schedule on the portal itself
The websites with step by step scholarship guides are officialMost are not. A great many sites on this subject exist to collect visitors and carry old dates. A Government page address ends in a Government domain. For Jharkhand that means the State portal, and for national schemes the national one
The one question that settles the direction. Ask: which of these documents will this student still be showing people in ten years? It is almost always the board certificate. Bring the rest to that, unless the certificate itself is genuinely wrong, in which case correct it properly and early rather than working around it every year.

Key Terms in a Scholarship and e-Kalyan Name Correction

Key terms used when correcting a name for a scholarship or e-Kalyan application
TermWhat it means in practice
e-KalyanThe Jharkhand portal of the Welfare Department, which runs schemes for the backward classes and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, covering pre matric and post matric scholarships within and outside the State
One Time RegistrationThe fourteen digit number issued based on the Aadhaar, applicable for the entire academic career of the student, and mandatory to avail scholarships on the national portal
The academic chainThe school record, the board certificate and marksheet, and the institution record. Usually the fixed point, because the board certificate is the hardest to change
The identity chainThe Aadhaar and the bank account. Correctable at a cost, and therefore usually the chain that should be brought into line
Pre matric and post matricScholarships before and after the matriculation stage. A student may move from one to the other carrying the same record forward
RenewalA later year's application on the same registration. Where an old error reappears, because the record was never really corrected
Aadhaar linked bank accountThe account students are advised to give while applying, with the linkage checkable through the portal. Check it before the window opens
Caste and income certificatesWhat establish the category a scholarship is given under. Their names have to agree with both chains, and obtaining fresh ones takes time
The windowThe annual period for registration, submission and document upload. Published per session, and not extendable by you
Institution scholarship deskThe college or school office that verifies applications. Sees these mismatches every session and is usually the fastest free source of a correct answer
Board certificate correctionThe formal route for changing a name on a board record, with its own evidence requirements and its own timeline. Frequently longer than a scholarship window
Fixed pointThe document everything else should be brought to. Deciding it is the first real decision in any of these cases

Scholarship Name Correction Help Across Jharkhand

This is a page for students and for the parents of students, and in this state that very often means a first generation college student from a family where nobody has had to reconcile four documents before. Scholarship and e-Kalyan Name Change: Frequently Asked Questions

Should I correct the Aadhaar or the marksheet first?+
Decide the direction before you touch either, because this page reverses our usual advice. Everywhere else on this site we say fix Aadhaar first. On a scholarship, the board certificate is usually the record that cannot easily move, so the sensible direction is often to bring the Aadhaar to the certificate. Ask yourself which document the student will still be showing people in ten years. It is almost always the certificate. Correct the certificate only if it is genuinely the wrong one.
Why does a scholarship name matter for so long?+
Because of how the registration is designed. The national portal states that One Time Registration "is a unique 14-digit number issued based on the Aadhaar/Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID) and is applicable for the entire academic career of the student" and that it "is mandatory to avail scholarships". Jharkhand's e-Kalyan portal similarly tells returning students to use "your same login and password without register again". A name entered once carries forward through every renewal, every course and every change of institution.
What is e-Kalyan and who is it for?+
It is the Jharkhand portal of "the Welfare Department running various schemes for the welfare of the backward classes and the SC/ST". It covers pre matric and post matric scholarships, for study both within the State and outside it. So a student from Jharkhand studying in another State may still be applying through it, carrying the same record forward from their school years.
Can I fix it next year if I miss this one?+
You can fix the name next year. You cannot get the missed year's scholarship. That is what makes this different from a ration card or a bank record, where being late costs only time. A scholarship session that closes is closed, and for many families that money was the reason the course was affordable. Start any correction months before the window, not during it.
When do applications open and what is the last date?+
We are deliberately not telling you. We print no schedule and no last date anywhere on this page, because the dates change every session and a stale date on a website is worse than no date at all. Many sites carrying scholarship guides still show dates from earlier years. Read the schedule on the portal itself for the current session, and note that registration, form submission and document upload may each have their own date.
Does the bank account have to be linked to Aadhaar?+
The Jharkhand portal advises students to "give their AADHAAR linked bank account number while applying", and it provides a way to check that linkage. We note that the wording there is advisory rather than absolute, but the practical answer is simple: check the linkage before the window opens, and expect the account to be in the student's own name. Discovering an unlinked account while a deadline is running is a bad week.
My father's name is spelt differently on the marksheet and the caste certificate.+
That stops applications just as firmly as the student's own name. The parents' names appear on the board certificate and on the certificates that establish the category, so all of them have to sit together. Our father name spelling mismatch page deals with that record, and our caste certificate page with the other. Deal with them in the same round rather than one per year.
Our surname is spelt two ways. Which do we use?+
Very common in this state, and usually neither form is wrong. Hembrom or Hembram, Oraon or Uraon, a Santali name written by ear at a school admission years ago. Pick one, and normally pick the one the academic chain already carries, because that is the chain that is hardest to change. Our tribal surname spelling correction page sets out how to choose, and the name mismatch between a JAC marksheet and Aadhaar page deals with exactly this pair.
Do I need a gazette notification for a scholarship application?+
Almost never, and be careful who suggests it while a deadline is running. A gazette is about a person's name. It does not correct a board certificate, it does not change a caste certificate, and it does not by itself fix a scholarship application. It also takes weeks, which a student with an open window does not have. That combination is exactly why the sale works. Ask the institution's scholarship desk first, because a board correction route or an Aadhaar update is usually the real answer and both are cheaper.
The application was rejected for a name mismatch. What now?+
Ask the institution's scholarship desk exactly which field failed and against which document, because that single answer decides everything. They verify these applications every session and see the same problems repeatedly. Then decide the direction, correct the one record that needs it, and keep every acknowledgement. If the window has closed, treat the work as preparation for the next session and start now, while there is time.
Will the correction reach the record automatically once I fix the document?+
Do not assume it. A corrected document does not always reach a portal record that was created years earlier on a different spelling. Read the application back against the certificate at every renewal, not just once. This is the step students skip, and it is why the same problem reappears in the third year after being solved in the first.
How much of this can you actually do for us?+
We read the four documents together, tell you which should be the fixed point and which direction the correction should run, tell you whether the board route or the Aadhaar route is cheaper and faster in your case, and draft whatever request is needed. The application itself is made by the student, and the institution's own desk is often the fastest free answer, which we will say when it is true. We are a documentation consultancy and not advocates, not the Welfare Department, not a board and not an institution.

Who wrote and checked this page

Written and maintained by the Jharkhandnamechange.com documentation desk, led by founder Vipin Chauhan, B.Tech LL.B, with 5+ years filing with the Department of Publication. The quoted positions on this page come from two official Government portals. From the National Scholarship Portal: that One Time Registration "is a unique 14-digit number issued based on the Aadhaar/Aadhaar Enrolment ID (EID) and is applicable for the entire academic career of the student", that "OTR is required to apply for scholarship on National Scholarship Portal", and that "One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory to avail scholarships". From the Jharkhand e-Kalyan portal of the State Welfare Department: that it belongs to "the Welfare Department running various schemes for the welfare of the backward classes and the SC/ST", covering pre matric and post matric scholarships within and outside the State; that students are "advised to give their AADHAAR linked bank account number while applying", with a facility to check that linkage; and that returning students should "apply application by using your same login and password without register again into our portal". We note in the page itself that the Aadhaar linked account wording is advisory rather than absolute, rather than hardening it into a rule. Three limits are declared openly. First, we print no schedule and no last date anywhere on this page. The schedule we saw while writing was from an earlier session, dates change every year, and a stale date is worse than none; the page tells the reader to read the current schedule on the portal. Second, neither portal page we read addressed how to correct a name already submitted, so we print no correction form or portal step and direct the reader to the institution's scholarship desk and the portals themselves. Third, we print no board, caste certificate or application charge, because we verified none. The division of the problem into an academic chain and an identity chain, the judgement that the board certificate is usually the fixed point so the usual Aadhaar first advice reverses here, and the advice to start months before the window, are our own working practice from handling student files and are described as such. Where this page touches board certificate corrections it defers to our own board correction pages rather than restating their routes. The gazette category positions and the printing charges shown are from the Department of Publication's own published guidelines for FY 2016 to 2017, with the guidelines' own caveat that they vary each financial year and from case to case. We are a documentation consultancy and not advocates, not the Welfare Department of Jharkhand, not the National Scholarship Portal, not an examination board and not an educational institution. Who we are is on the about page.

A Scholarship Name Correction in Eight Lines

The short version

  • The registration is built on Aadhaar and lasts the whole career.
  • So a spelling settled at fifteen is still there at a renewal.
  • Two chains must agree: the academic one and the identity one.
  • The board certificate is usually the one that cannot move.
  • So here you often bring the Aadhaar to the certificate.
  • The caste and income certificates have to agree as well.
  • A missed application window means a missed year of money.
  • Start the correction months before the window opens.

Compare the marksheet, the Aadhaar, the passbook and the caste certificate in a holiday month.

A scholarship name is locked in once and carried for the whole academic career, and a missed window is a missed year. Three months early this is cheap. In the week the portal opens it is often too late.
